Bay Area Legends FORBIDDEN Annouce OmegAfest Featuring BIOHAZARD, WARBRINGER, EXCITER and More

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 19, 2024) — Bay Area metal legends FORBIDDEN announce their first annual OmegAfest on May 4, 2024 at The UC Theatre in Berkeley, CA. When Forbidden was reborn last year things got off to a raucous start. One of the first things the band wanted to do is to be able to control their own flow. Choose where, when and what they play.

Thats why they created our own festival…OmegAfest!

OmegAfest 2024 Lineup:

May 4, 2024
The UC Theatre
Berkeley, CA
Death Grave

Tickets for OmegAfest are available here

This will be the first of hopefully many more European-like festivals that the band will throw annually at the UC Theater in Berkeley. An amazing venue with a 1,400 capacity, excellent sound, stage & lights.

The idea is they get to hand pick the bands they play with every year covering multiple genres of heavy music. This year they have BIOHAZARD co-headlining with FORBIDDEN. BIOHAZARD’s first gig back in the Bay in 30 years!

Each year moving forward the band will select national acts as well as a few strong up and coming local bands. A genre blend creating a more European style of eclectic talent.

OmegAfest will be FORBIDDEN’s ONLY Bay Area appearance of 2024.

About Forbidden

Originally founded in 1985 as Forbidden Evil by singer Russ Anderson, guitarists Craig Locicero & Robb Flynn, basses John Tegio and drummer Jim Pittman, the quintet started playing house parties and Bay Area clubs such as the Legendary Ruthie’s Inn soon after.

After a couple of lineup changes (Paul Bostaph / drums & Matt Camacho / bass) in ’86, the band quickly rose through the ranks of Bay Area Thrash to gain a massive following and worldwide notoriety.

In 1986, the band added Glen Alvelais as the second guitarist. It was this lineup that cemented itself into the Bay Area scene and soon after recorded 1988 release ‘Forbidden Evil’ for Combat Records changing the band’s name to simply Forbidden.

In May of ’89 while on a European tour with Sacred Reich, Forbidden played their first appearance at the Legendary Dynamo Open Air in Eindhoven, Netherlands. It was here that Forbidden made their European mark and recorded the Raw Evil EP.

The band returned Stateside and replaced Alvelais with Tim Calvert. Calvert was a missing ingredient that brought the band closer together asa team. They continued to tour the U.S. first with Exodus and then again with Sacred Reich with Calvert on second guitar.

The band went on to release Twisted Into Form in 1990, Distortion in 1994 and Green in 1996 however the band having gone though many lineup changes disbanded in 1997.

In 2008 Craig being inspired at a screening of the movie Get Thrashed, called the other members of the band and suggested getting back on stage to see if they could reignite the Forbidden machine. With Anderson, Locicero, Camacho back in the mix along with new additions Glen Alvelais and Gene Hoglan they played two sold out Death Angel shows in San Francisco.

Steve Smyth came into the mix in place of Alvelais and Mark Hernandez took Hoglan’s place, the band then released Omega Wave, the 5th in the catalog and went on a US tour with Overkill. European festivals were next but afterwards Hernandez had to walk away due to personal reasons leading to a tour cancelation.

Sasha Horn was the answer to fill the drummer’s spot.

After playing Bonded By Baloff with Exodus and one Bay Area show, Forbidden embarked for Chile to play the Metal Fest in Santiago. It was on this flight back home that Russ informed the band that he couldn’t tour anymore because of the physical toll it was taking on him. With that, the band dissolved once again for 11 years.

Fast forward to 2023. The once improbable and impossible happened. Forbidden is reforming with new blood! Locicero, Camacho & Smyth remain from the Omega Wave lineup.

New vocalist Norman Skinner will take the elite position that belonged to Russ Anderson. Norman shocked everyone who witnessed his performance of Chalice of Blood with LA thrashers Warbringer accompanying him as the band. It was undeniable to all in attendance. Norman grew up in the Bay Area. His first thrash metal show was seeing Forbidden at the Omni. Russ would point to Norman at shows and call him
“Little Russ” on the mic. It could ONLY be Norman Skinner that stands aside the band.

The Bay Area thrash / punk drum Legend Chris Kontos takes over the drum throne. In a long line of world renown drummers, Kontos is the most logical & qualified man for the job. Bostaph, Jacobs, Hoglan, Hernandez, Horn… World class talents. Now Kontos.

TORONTO, CANADA (November 6, 2023) — Lillian Axe founder and guitarist Steve Blaze is now offering guitar lessons under the banner, The Blaze Method. The lessons are geared towards beginner and intermediate level players. However, even seasoned guitarists are getting something from the lessons, as Steve offers a refreshing way to view the instrument and how to approach playing. Lessons are pre-recorded and run for approximately 30-60 minutes. The lessons can be viewed over and over indefinitely. Quite a score, for those who find it difficult to pick up what a teacher may show them at an in-person lesson. Steve also wraps each lesson with a piece of a Lillian Axe song based around the lesson taught.

When you purchase a lesson, Steve makes himself available to respond to any questions via email and encourages students to send in their own compositions for advice. If you purchase 4 lessons, a phone or zoom call with Steve may be scheduled. The Blaze Method, is surprisingly priced very affordably, especially from a professional, seasoned musician and payment plans will be beginning soon. If you’re interested, go to for complete sign up information. Email with any questions.

Steve Blaze talking about the lessons, “There are so many wonderful guitarists in this world, and each one is unique. I discuss everything from chord structure, soloing, self development, songwriting and overall mental approach in order to have each student develop his or her own unique style and method.” recently announced the launch of BraveWords Records and now BraveWords Records is excited to announce the signing of Lillian Axe. Mad Symphony Flex ‘Prog-Sleaze’ Muscles with their Sophomore Release ‘Blood 2 Dust’

Mad Symphony is:
Kevin Wright – Lead Vocals, Percussion
Dave Groves – Lead Guitar, BG Vocals
Ted Tosoff – Rhythm Guitar, BG Vocals
Mike Russell – Keyboards, BG Vocals
Amrit Prasad – Bass
Wes Hallam – Drums

VANCOUVER, CANADA (December 1, 2022) — Mad Symphony flex ‘prog-sleaze’ muscles while expanding musical horizons with their sophomore release ‘Blood 2 Dust’. Early reviews are loving the new album…

10 out of 10, Mad Symphony also have a distinctly Progressive Rock edge that picks up exactly where the golden age of Rush from “2112” to “Moving Pictures” left off. –

Slick, melodic rock with big choruses and bluesy beginnings. – MoM Towers

Hot on the heels of a debut CD released at the height of the pandemic to critical acclaim ‘Blood 2 Dust’ attempts to make sense of human frailty and mortality (Blood 2 Dust, Judgement Day), the horrors of dementia and memory loss (I Can’t Remember Your Name) whiletackling the dark sides of social media and cancel culture (Reality Check, Truth in the Shadows). The title track kicks things off in style with a powerful groove capably anchored by drummer Wes Hallam and bassist Amrit Prasad. The twin guitar attack of Ted Tosoff and Dave Groves swirls seamlessly throughout the song while keyboardist Mike Russel adds color and musicality to the mix with orchestral blasts. Vocalist Kevin Wright howls forlornly “When it’s over and done maybe that’s all….from blood to dust” questioning promises of an afterlife free from earthly burdens while encouraging listeners to live each day as if it were theirlast.

The dark and moody shuffle that propels ‘I Can’t Remember Your Name’ takes us into the mind of an Alzheimers patient struggling to retain identity and sense of self in a confusing and rapidly shrinking world. The catchy chorus and uplifting keyboard lines juxtapose with the sad nature of the lyrical content. ‘I Can’t Remember Your Name’ is dedicated to family members whose minds have beenstolen by dementia and those who have had to deal with the aftermath .

Up-tempo rocker ‘Reality Check’ critically examines the pitfalls of social media with a warning to users to “Watch your step, it’s over in a minute until there’s nothing else that is left “. Guitar and keyboard lines intertwine harmoniously throughout, building to a hard-hitting chorus before falling to an atmospheric breakdown where vocalist Kevin Wright laments that the online world has become“A candy-coated nightmare, everybody has a blank stare”. Well said Kevin!

Living through a pandemic has highlighted just how much of daily life humanitytakes for granted. Lyricist Ted Tosoff was suddenly bereft of any gigs or income but found enough inspiration in the repetitive banality of self-isolation to write the song ‘Judgement Day’. “I was sitting in my room just staring into space while descending deeper into madness and the words just started to flow” claims Tosoff. ‘Tomorrow keeps on turning into the day that went before’ sings Kevin Wright summing up feelings of hopelessness before more optimistically declaring that he ‘Never, never know where I’m going I know there’s something more.’ A Zeppelin-esque and relentless power grind from Wes Hallam evokes memories of John Bonham while the retro riffing of Dave Groves and Ted Tosoff give the song aflavor of Jimmy Page. Spaghetti western saloon-style piano and keyboard work from Mike Russel completes the picture nicely.

Album closer ‘Truth in the Shadows’ comments on the difficulty of determining fact from fiction in the digital age. The bluesy vocal delivery from Kevin Wright would be at home on any Whitesnake record while the big harmonies of the chorus line ‘Truth in the shadows, lies upon the street’ sound at home on any modern rock station. The song takes a left turn in the middle section with some tasty Queen-inspired guitar work from Dave Groves before building back to a vocal crescendo of epic proportions from the band as a whole.

Epic and timely, modern and retro. Do yourself a favor and get Mad Symphonys’ Blood 2 Dust today.
