An Interview With Switzerlands Up And Coming Nu Metal Band CHAOSEUM

The word Chaoseum means museum of Chaos.

Up and coming Swiss based band Chaoseum was Founded in 2018 by Loïc Duruz and Valery Veings, both former guitarists of Symphonic Metal band Elferya. Theres Greg Turini on Drums and Singer CK Smiles joined the band later in February 2019, after their first album.

CHAOSEUM band hails from Switzerland. When creating music the band likes to explore different styles. They’re not really fixed on a singular genre. They like to reinvent themselves while simultaneously reviving the nu-metal sound of the nineties, a musical era the band grew up in. They are a fusion of nu- metal and metalcore. They released the song Smile Again during the pandemic and it exceeded 1M views on Youtube within 1 week. At this stage of the game they began to take thing a little more serious.

CHAOSEUM’S new album The Third Eye is definitely worth checking out. Theres talent here. The production is good and you can hear the intensive hard work and detail they put into every song. Dance On My Grave, Welcome Home, My Wonderland and Sanctum Cinerem have thick, monumental sound characterized by distorted guitars, extended guitar solos and emphatic beats that aptly produce a recurring chaotic theme. The verses on Welcome Home are incredible but then the chorus kind of throws you off. The bridge on Satctum Cinerem is extraordinary and reminds me of The Hating by Korn. Unreal has very dark lyrical content with hidden messages. My favorite track on the album is The Third Eye. Its a phenomenal album, I’m still digesting it. Their music is showing why there’s an upsurge in their ever growing fan base in the metalcore scene.

In the immortal words of the late great Hilly Kristal, “There’s something there, there’s definitely something there.” It will be very interesting to see what their sound evolves into in the future.

A brief history of the band

CK started playing music with his father at the age of 5, with whom he played his first concert. On his 8th birthday he started to study classical guitar at the conservatory of Lausanne.

CK: “Music is the best way to express all emotions. I started to play music with my dad when I was a little kid and I’ve never quit… and I never will.”

Loïc started playing guitar in 2002. He is totally self-taught. It’s while watching videos and live performances of bands like Deftones and Korn on MTV that inspired him to play guitar and start a band.

Valery is a big fan of Iron Maiden and it was while watching the live show “After Death” that he decided to buy his first guitar and start playing it.

Greg has always had a passion for drums. He started playing the drums at a very young age and decided to make it his profession and study at the conservatory. Today he teaches drums in his own school.

Metal Lair: How did you all meet and what was the catalyst in deciding to form a band?

Chaoseum: Valery and Loïc wanted to do a lot of gigs and for that we left our old band to create Chaoseum. Greg followed us directly and we contacted CK to join us.

Metal Lair: Who writes the lyrics and who writes the music?

Chaoseum: There is not a precisely defined rule. Loïc usually brings the musical part he shares with CK. In collaboration, they finalize the framework. Greg and I bring a little touch with our style of play. Regarding the lyrics, that’s CK and myself. The lyrics always come after the music because the latter inspires us for the theme of the lyrics. The edgelines are then created by CK. For the instrumental composition it is Loïc who composes the first drafts of the songs and then the arrangements are made with the band.

Metal Lair: Some bands write songs about politics, religion and other controversial material. Are there any subjects you consider off limits that you wont write about?

Chaoseum: We do not wish to give our political opinions. We prefer to talk about subjects that affect us personally and our life experiences.

Metal Lair: Your new album is phenomenal. Ive listened to it several times now. For me the stand out track is The Third Eye.” What made you write this song and how did you come up with the intro?

Chaoseum: “Third Eye” was the intro to “Fly Away” but when we were arranging it we decided to make it a track. So we decided to create a heavy bass line and add some cello because CK plays it. We wanted to create something very atmospheric and CK had the good idea to do some oriental vocals to give this vibe

Metal Lair: The song Unreal is intense and has very dark lyrics. Are these lyrics personal? Who wrote this song and what exactly is this song about?

Chaoseum: “Unreal” talks about CK Smiles past and more precisely about his relationship with religion.

Metal Lair: What is the song I Sexy Zombie about exactly?

Chaoseum: In “I sexy zombie”, CK puts himself in the shoes of Hannibal Lecter.

Metal Lair: What is the music scene like in Switzerland? Do you guys play a lot of local shows there?

Chaoseum: In Switzerland, we have some good festivals and concerts. Like the Greenfield festival, etc. People like to go to festivals, but they don’t go to the concert halls as much to see the bands play. We have played a few gigs at home but we usually get more requests from other countries

Metal Lair: Do you all hang out together when not doing band stuff?

Chaoseum: Yes of course. We meet up and go to concerts and also for lunch, etc…

Metal Lair: What is everyones favorite movie?

Greg: Whiplash

Loïc: The Exorcism of Emily Rose

CK Smile: La Ruée vers l’or de Chaplin

Valery: Cheakspear in Love

Metal Lair: What is everyones favorite food to eat?

Loïc: Fondue

CK Smile: Indian Food

Greg: Tomahawk with French Fries and Vegetables

Valery: Grill Stone

Metal Lair: What is next for Chaoseum?

Chaoseum: The promotion of our new album and the preparation of a tour in 2023

Metal Lair: Do you have any final words for your fans?

Chaoseum: Keep your Smile Motherfucker!

PANTERA’S First Show in 21 Years. Fan Filmed Footage

photograph by Paul Gargano

Well, it finally happened after many years. Pantera hit the stage and set it on fire last night at At Mexico HELL & HEAVEN METAL FEST to the delight of legions of fans. The Pantera reunion has sparked much controversy since its inception. Fans are divided due to the absence of the the bands co-founders, the Abbott brothers.

It was first reported in July that Anselmo and Brown would unite with Wylde and Benante for a world tour under the PANTERA banner.

The band will headline a number of other major festivals across North America, South America and Europe and stage some of their own headline concerts. They will also support METALLICA on a massive North American stadium tour in 2023 and 2024.

According to Billboard, the lineup has been given a green light by the estates of the band’s founders, drummer Vincent “Vinnie Paul” Abbott and guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, as well as Brown.

Last night, December 2nd Pantera played their first show in over 20 years, and it was totally action packed with high energy.

This was the groove-metal inaugural gig with their new lineup original members Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown were joined by longtime friends Charlie Benante, Anthrax and Zakk Wylde, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society. and the start of a long tour schedule that’s set for South America this winter, and eventually Europe and the United States.

Fans at Mexico’s Hell & Heaven Metal Fest who were lucky enough to witness this historic event quickly flooded the internet with videos. Pantera‘s stacked, 15-song setlist was their most beloved material, including their cover of Black Sabbath’s “Planet Caravan” during which a tribute video to the band’s founding brothers, Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul — who passed in 2004 and 2018, respectively — played on the screen behind them.

Earlier this week, Benante told Metal Edge: “The first show with PANTERA is going to be kinda nerve-wracking. I’m probably gonna need a couple of drinks to be honest with you, to kinda settle me down… I need to get that first PANTERA show under the belt.”

Asked if he’s looking forward to any performing any particular PANTERA tracks, Benante said”: “I enjoy each one of them. When I look down at the list, I’m like, ‘Oh, I like this song,’ that type of thing. There’s two odd songs in there too that I don’t think they played, consistently, throughout [their] sets. Those are the two songs I enjoy playing the most, I think.”

Regarding the criticism floating around social media about relaunching the PANTERA name more than two decades since the group played their last show, and all the chatter about it not being a true reunion without Vinnie and Dime, Benante said: “First off, it’s not a reunion. It’s a celebration of the music. If you saw the thing that went out, it was like, ‘PANTERA featuring…’ the four of us. Those two guys are a part of this and who else is there? Vinnie and Dime are not here, so, Philip and Rex, they were that band, too. [They] deserve to be there as much as anybody. I see the negative stuff sometimes, and I’m just like, ‘This is so ridiculous, man.’ Just enjoy hearing those songs again.”

Benante told SiriusXM‘s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk” about how he plans to approach the PANTERA gig: “I can’t go do this as the drummer from ANTHRAX because it would be a different sound completely. So the way I’m gonna do that is if you close your eyes, it’s gonna sound like it’s Vinnie, basically. And that’s how it’s gonna be. The sound is gonna sound exactly like him.”

Wylde said that he had a similar mindset. “You approach it the same way as you do when I’m playing with Ozzy,” he said. “Obviously I’ve gotta learn Randy Rhoads‘s stuff and I’ve gotta learn Jake‘s E. Lee stuff, and when I was doing the BLACK SABBATH stuff, you learn it and do it as faithful as you can. Charlie‘s gotta learn all of Vinnie‘s parts. You approach it as if you’re in a cover band. When we do the ZAKK SABBATH stuff,” referring to his BLACK SABBATHcover band, “I don’t start changing lyrics midway through ‘War Pigs’. You learn the songs — so that’s what you do.”

A year ago, Anselmo said that he was up for reuniting with Brown for a special tour celebrating the music of PANTERA. The 54-year-old singer, who has spent the past few years playing a PANTERA-centric set with his solo band, THE ILLEGALS, discussed the possibility of re-teaming with his former PANTERA bandmate during an interview with Brazil’s Inside With Paulo Baron. Asked if he and Rex would be open to playing some shows in celebration of PANTERA‘s legacy, Anselmo said: “If Rex and I had a show to play, or we were ever gonna be on stage again together, I would welcome it with open arms. I love Rex. And he’d be the same way. We’re brothers forever. So playing on stage together, or doing some shows together, is not out of the question. It could happen.”

In April 2021, Rex told Eonmusic that he and Philip still get offers for a PANTERA tribute tour. “But if you don’t have the other guys in the band, it’s not going to sound the same,” he said. “If we were ever to do something like that, it would have to be spot-on, or I wouldn’t do it. It would be a tribute.”

Talk about a possible “Pantera reunion” intensified when Anselmo regularly joined Wylde‘s BLACK LABEL SOCIETY to perform PANTERA‘s song “I’m Broken” during DOWN‘s 2014 stint on the “Revolver Golden Gods Tour”. That buzz only got stronger after Brown joined the jam on May 23, 2014 when the tour swung through Texas.

Up until his passing, Vinnie remained on non-speaking terms with Anselmo, whom the drummer indirectly blamed for Dimebag‘s death.

Vinnie Paul and Dimebag co-founded PANTERA. When PANTERA broke up in 2003, they formed DAMAGEPLAN. On December 8, 2004, while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag was shot and killed onstage by a troubled schizophrenic who believed that the members of PANTERA were stealing his thoughts.

DOWNFALL OF GAIA: Silhouettes Of Disgust Full-Length Out Now On Metal Blade Records; “While Bloodsprings Become Rivers” Visualizer Revealed

DOWNFALL OF GAIA:
Dominik Goncalves dos Reis – vocals, guitars
Peter Wolff – guitars, vocals
Anton Lisovoj – bass, vocals
Michael Kadnar – drums

Germany’s DOWNFALL OF GAIA unleashes their sixth studio album, Silhouettes Of Disgust, via Metal Blade Records!

DOWNFALL OF GAIA is a dark wall, moving forward relentlessly, enveloping the listener, absorbing one’s spirit to take one into the realm of the band’s potent sound. Progressing in part by looking backwards and returning to familiar territory Silhouettes Of Disgust delivers a dynamic and textured blend of crust punk and post-black metal doused in atmospheric elements, taking everything that ever made the band compelling and pushing it in new and gripping directions. The record includes the return of guitarist Peter Wolff, who left the band in 2015 to focus on family and other pursuits. They’ve also expanded their sonic palette with the addition of synths for the first time, and female vocals courtesy of Lulu Black, who collaborates with drummer Michael Kadnar in industrial/gothic project This Is Oblivion.

Coinciding with the release of Silhouettes Of Disgust, DOWNFALL OF GAIA today unveils a visualizer for the track “While Bloodsprings Become Rivers.”

Elaborates vocalist/guitarist Dominik Goncalves dos Reis, “Dreams and goals are not equally achievable for everyone. Ever-growing class differences within society have become a major problem that has received far too little attention. Social injustice continues to reach new heights, and everyday life is becoming increasingly difficult for many to cope with.”

View DOWNFALL OF GAIA’s “While Bloodsprings Become Rivers” video at THIS LOCATION.

View the band’s previously released video for “Bodies As Driftwood” at THIS LOCATION, a companion drum playthrough for the track at THIS LOCATION, and a visualizer for “Existence Of Awe” at THIS LOCATION.

Silhouettes Of Disgust is out now on CD, LP, and digitally. Preview and purchase the record at: metalblade.com/downfallofgaia.

The title Silhouettes Of Disgust is derived from the narratives driving the songs contained within, focusing on the stories of eight different people, as residents of a fictional metropolis, each with their own worries and struggles. “Loneliness, addiction, the fear of tomorrow, pressure from society/work and others, things that many of us probably know all too well,” explains Goncalves dos Reis. “You have to play along somehow, or you fall through the cracks, and once you’re down, it’s hard to get back up. It looks at selfishness and ignorance, the general way of dealing with each other – you’re one, surrounded by millions, surrounded by all these silhouettes of disgust, surrounded by the things you want to avoid and hate. The last few years have impressively proven what you can expect from humanity, and honestly, it’s not much.”

DOWNFALL OF GAIA will return to the stage next month on a short run of European live dates celebrating the release of Silhouettes Of Disgust. The tour kicks off on April 11th in Munich, Germany and runs through April 23rd in Berlin, Germany. The band will be joined by Implore and Deathrite on select shows. See all confirmed dates below.

DOWNFALL OF GAIA paints a bleak yet enticing portrait on their new record; their crust-tinged post-black metal keeps the momentum up even as it reaches new emotional lows.” – Invisible Oranges

“There’s always been something almost ‘post-apocalyptic’ about DOWNFALL OF GAIA’s particularly poignant brand of ‘post-black metal’ and that remains the case throughout Silhouettes Of Disgust. But it’s not the action-packed apocalypse of mutants and muscle cars of Mad Max, or the grim, trudging march towards the grave of something like The Walking Dead. It’s a quieter, more contemplative cataclysm – closer, perhaps, to current media darling The Last Of Us in its focus on loss and regret and the need to find moments of humanity even as the world around us falls apart.” – No Clean Singing

“A cinematic songwriting masterclass, Silhouettes of Disgust is a work by a band who is firing on all cylinders with no intention to let up. Uncompromising, intricate, and meaningful, DOWNFALL OF GAIA are an unstoppable force.” – Dead Rhetoric

“…a compelling and engaging listen.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“It has a full, heavy sound with majestic qualities. The riffs build in layers, and the vocals are absolutely horrid. Around the half-way mark, the sound drops to just thick bass notes, and depression sets in…” – Metal Temple

“…It’s tightly written. Urgent and abrasive in places (‘Final Vows’), melancholic and contemplative in others (‘Eyes To Burning Skies’ and closer, ‘Optograms Of Disgust’), no track is one dimensional, each fluidly transitioning between the different aspects of DOWNFALL OF GAIA’s sound…” – Angry Metal Guy

“Silhouettes of Disgust is the perfect example of ‘all killer, no filler’. It pulls you immediately into the mosh pit and bashes you around relentlessly, but you come out of it feeling like you made some new friends. It’s a joyfully engaging listen, and one that ensures that I will now be looking forward to what comes next from this band.” – Nine Circles

“DOWNFALL OF GAIA always have been an inventive and thought-provoking band, yet Silhouettes Of Disgust takes that even further than before… This is volcanic, emotional, and dreamy, an experience that aligns with our chaotic world and tries to find sense within the carnage.” – Meat Mead Metal

“DOWNFALL OF GAIA have truly surpassed themselves with an absolutely stunning effort. Along with a more succinct approach to the song writing, there are new additions such as synths and female guest vocals courtesy of Lulu Black. Old fans will cry happy tears and new fans will arrive in droves.” – Metal Mance

“…a characteristically despondent effort that perfectly sums up the world state right now. Largely harrowing, but with enough moments of hope breaking through.” – Ghost Cult

Surrender To Waves Of Progressive Metal With Israel’s NEOLIA’s Music Video For “Carried Away”

Self-Titled Album Out May 2023

Album Mastered by Howie Weinberg (Metallica, Pantera, Nirvana)

Get ready to immerse yourself in a world of dynamic soundscapes and intricate musicianship as Israeli progressive metal band Neolia drops their anticipated debut self-titled album. Brace yourself for a genre-bending journey that will leave you begging for more. In advance of this release, they have a new music video out for the track “Carried Away”, which gives an up-close look at the band playing live and continues the story of the fictional character Alex who the album is about. They share the story conveyed in the single:

“This is a bitter, sweet memory, a sharp twist to a childhood memory from age 7. Being barely woken up, after fainting out repeatedly and passing out from rat poison fumes that were sprayed throughout the house, Alex was experiencing hallucinations while being unconscious and imagining being at the same location where he found his mother dead while nature around him came to life in the form of a nightmare. But even within this horror show, while feeling scared, cold, and alone he managed to take control and put up a fight.”

The music starts gently and gradually. A fragile moment yet intense drops with a drum groove on the ride symbols paired with a dark and busy bass line that is balanced by a tender choir section and guitars that contrast each other. Gradually the music intensifies and gets even darker reflecting an emotional spiral that reaches a certain climax after the second verse. After the last chorus, the song ends with vigorous unison of guitar and synth layers.

The video is a taste of what seeing Neolia live is like. They play shows and festivals regularly all over Israel and their virtuosic, eclectic, and artistic shows take the audience on a journey. They are recommended for fans of Sikth, Mudvayne, and TOOL.

Out Now! Rockshots Records – EMBRYO Give Birth To New Album “A Vivid Shade on Misery” ft. Drummer George Kollias (Nile)

Current Line-Up:
Roberto Pasolini – Vocals
Eugenio Sambasile – Guitars
Simone Solla – Keyboards
Gabriel Pignatta – Bass
George Kollias – Drums (guest)

Italy’s melodic death metal powerhouse Embryo has unleashed its fifth album “A Vivid Shade on Misery”, which features the pummeling drumming force of George Kollias (Nile) whom the band recruited for the full-length’s recording.

“A Vivid Shade on Misery” follows the band’s 2017’s “A Step Beyond Divinity” (Art Gates Records), 2015’s Self-Titled (logic(il)logic Records) that featured Fleshgod Apocalypse’s drummer Francesco Paoli, 2010’s “No God Slave” and their 2006 debut “Chaotic Age”.

Embryo began writing their fifth offering in 2020 with George Kollias and entered the Domination Studio in July 2021 with producer Simone Mularoni, and engineer Simone Bertozzi.

Monolithic, intense, powerful, technical, and melodic this new album features eight brand new tracks and is another concept album like its predecessor “A Step Beyond Divinity”. The band is inspired by historical Italian figures of the Renaissance era and their tormented lives, their absolute genius, and the gifts they gave to the world. While the previous album “A Step Beyond Divinity” was inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci, this new work is totally inspired by Michelangelo Merisi alias Caravaggio, an Italian painter active in Rome for most of his artistic life. Overall, fans will find this album has the “Embryo” matrix. It will be a more direct record and its songs make up a pattern that takes the listener on a journey through torments and anxieties.”

“For this album, we decided on the track list in the studio, after listening to the completed record all together several times; our producer Simone Mularoni also helped us in this choice. The new album has eight tracks and eight tracks were thought to talk about the “story”. A few less than the previous “A Step Beyond Divinity,” but we are sure that the fans will have the right time to enjoy it musically and lyrically. We want to have listeners dive into our world by giving them brutal and atmospheric music melted together in the way we love to do plus having Kollias drum on this new album, one of the best drummers in the world, is just an absolute honour.” adds the band.

From the band’s first album “Chaotic Age” (2006) to today, Embryo‘s music has evolved over the years. On the first record, they were more brutal and messier, now their compositions are much more “thought out” and brilliant. If they had to use one word to describe their compositional evolution they would say “sharp”.

In addition to the release of “A Vivid Shade on Misery”, the band is unveiling their next music video for the track“Pride”, a real kick-in-the-face assault for fans to enjoy.

About: After a couple of self-produced works and a first album (“Chaotic Age”) Embryo found its sound and recorded “No God Slave” (2010) with producer Simone Mularoni. The album received very good reviews and led the band to play new gigs in Switzerland, Germany, and Italy and be part of Kung Fu Factory’s Supremacy MMA videogame soundtrack with 2 songs. In 2014 Embryo first recorded a promo at Atomic Stuff Studio with Oscar Burato, then, in May, the band recorded the new self-titled cd at Domination Studio with Simone Mularoni. During the summer they played the main stage at Masters of Rock in the Czech Republic and Total Metal Festival in Italy. In October Embryo signed a deal with logic(il)logic Records for the release of the album and the reissue of “No God Slave” with some bonus tracks. In December the band made a little tour in Eastern Europe. The new album “Embryo” came out on the 10th of February 2015. The album received great reviews worldwide and Embryo started a European tour in May with Melechesh, Keep of Kalessin, and Tribulation. After a great show at MetalFest in the Czech Republic in July, the band joined Nile and Suffocation for the second part of their European tour in September. In 2016 the band has been part of the second leg of the “What Should Not Be Unearthed” Nile tour with Melechesh and Mithridatic. Embryo finished the recordings of the new album in January at Domination Studios again with guru Simone Mularoni. The band played at the 2017 edition of MetalFest in the Czech Republic on Sunday, June 4th, and signed a deal with Art Gates Records for the release of the 4th studio album “A Step Beyond Divinity” which came out on the 27th of October 2017 in Spain and the 24th of November 2017 in the rest of the world. The album has been enthusiastically reviewed entering the 2017 best albums of the year charts in various webzines all over the world. In November 2019 the band joined “The Last Atonement European tour” supporting Immolation, Ragnarok, and Monuments of Misanthropy for all the shows. In December the band released a free download digital EP including the new song Misguided legacy and three live songs taken from a live show of the band. In 2020 the famous drummer George Kollias (Nile) joined Embryo in the writing of the new album. The band entered again Domination Studio in July 2021 to record the brand new fifth album “A Vivid Shade On Misery”, which will be released in early 2023, anticipated by the video of the new song “Darkest Lights”. Stay tuned!

Black Lion Records – Finnish Black Metal ONDFODT Team Up With FINNTROLL’s Mathias Lillmåns To Find Out “Where Death Roams”; New Album “Det Österbottniska Mörkret” Out May 2023

ONDFODT is:
Tommi Tuhkala: Drums, Synth/Effects
Joel Notkonen: Bass, Synth/Effects, Backing Vocals
Dario Kåll: Guitars, Backing Vocals
Owe Inborr: Vocals, Guitars

Unleashing their fourth album “Det Österbottniska Mörkret” this coming May 2023 on Black Lion Records, Finnish black metallers ONDFODT want you to find out “Where Death Roams”with the latest video for their single featuring guest vocals from Mathias “Vreth” Lillmåns of Finntroll.

Watch and listen:

ONDFODT‘s forthcoming album“Det Österbottniska Mörkret”is very dark both lyrically and musically along with vocals in Finnish and English. The album was written in 2022 by vocalist/guitarist and band founder Owe Inborr and honed by all the members to perfection before hitting the studio in September 2022 at Wolfthrone Studios where it was also mixed and mastered. Guest contributions also include Jacob Björnfot (KVAEN) and Mathias “Vreth” Lillmåns.

The album follows their three full-lengths “Norden” (2021), “Dödsrikets Kallelse” (2019), “Hexkonst” (2014) released on Immortal Frost Productions, and their self-released debut EP “I” (2013).

Inspired by their stomping ground in Ostrobothnia, a region in Western Finland where the band was founded in 2013, they are fond of their home and the dark folk tales they have embraced since childhood.

The band comments:

“This album is about exploring the darkest side of Ostrobothnia, both lyrically and sonically. If you are from Ostrobothnia you will understand the endless darkness during winter when the sun is barely going above the horizon. You will also understand the dark history of the witch hunt in this part of Finnish history. “Det Österbottniska Mörkret” is about all of that and going even deeper to the roots of all the evil spirits that live in the area. This album’s focus is to take you through the dark history of murders and the darkest side of people driven by religion. And as well as the urban legends of the spirits and the evil creations that live in the endless forests of Ostrobothnia. And finally, the record takes you through death itself, for example, in the song “Dödsrejson”. ‘You feel the life is slowly fading, everything turns cold, You close your eyes and let go, soon you’ll be home again’.”

“Det Österbottniska Mörkret” is due out on May 26, 2023, viaBlack Lion Records and is available for pre-order at the following links:

About:

ONDFØDT started in April 2013 when founding members Owe Inborr and Mikael Kåll decided to start a new raw black metal project. They spent a couple of days in the studio and soon Ondfødt’s first EP entitled “I” was released independently. The release of the EP turned out to be a success and it didn’t take long until all copies were sold out.

Ondfødt immediately started to work on new material and signed a deal with Immortal Frost Productions for the release of their debut album. After the release of the first EP Ondfødt recruited three new members: Bassist Dario Vujocevic, Drummer Simon Bondegård on Drums, and Guitarist Juuso Englund.

During the recordings of Ondfødt’s debut, Simon Bondegård, unfortunately, had to leave the band, and vocalist Owe Inborr jumped in as a replacement during the recordings.

In 2017 vocalist Owe started to write new music for their upcoming album “Dödsrikets Kallelse”.

In 2018 Ondfødt entered Wolfthrone Studios for the second time and started the recordings.

This time they got vocalist “Mathias Lillmåns” from “…and oceans, Finntroll” to guest as vocalist on the track “No Ere Jo Satan” which they later made a music video of. The album got released on CD, Vinyl, and Digitally in early 2019.

After the recording of “Dödsrikets Kallelse” in 2018 Owe started again to write new material for the third album “NORDEN” and together with guitarist Juuso they shaped a new sound for the band. The recording phase of “NORDEN” took place in 2019 at Wolfthrone Studios and this time they got “Jacob Björnfot” from “KVAEN” to perform 2 solos on the album. On the tracks “Han Bor I Skuggona” and “Gifti Från Tadjin” you can hear his performance. Norden got released on CD, Vinyl, and Digitally in the summer of 2021.

In December 2021 Dario joined the band again but this time as guitarist and decided together with Owe to bring back Ondfødt live once again after almost 9 years away from the stage. In early 2022 “Tommi Tuhkala” (Outlaw, KVAEN) joined the band as their permanent drummer.

In April 2022 Ondfødt released the first glimpse of the band live again by releasing two “live in studio” videos together with session bassist Mathias “Vreth” Lillmåns (Finntroll, …And Oceans).

After that Owe started to write new songs for their 4th full-length “Det Österbottniska Mörkret”. Later in the summer, the band joined “Black Lion Records” to release their 4th album for its release in May 2023. In September 2022 “Joel Notkonen” joined the band permanently as their bassist and together they shaped the songs to their fullest and started the recordings once again at “Wolfthrone Studios”.

In December 2022 Ondfødt had their comeback gig at “Black Sheep Pub & Terrace”. The concert was filmed and recorded professionally by “Wolfthrone Studios” and got released by “Black Lion Records” on the 31st of December 2022.

With Live in Rio, The Hollywood Vampires probably played their biggest and most legendary gig in front of more than 100,000 fans. After this success and the media interest in the ultimate rock group, sold-out concerts, and tours all over the world followed, and in 2019, finally, the second album Rise. Over 50,000 physical units sold, millions of streams, and worldwide cover stories in major magazines later, fans, press and the band were ready to bring these songs to the stage. Unfortunately, part of the tour had to be postponed due to the pandemic and will finally be made up for this summer. Fittingly, the first live album will be released a few days earlier on June 2.

Tentacles Industries – France’s SUNBEAM OVERDRIVE Get Philosophical With Proggy “Out Of Plato’s Cave” Off New Album “Diama” Out May 2023

Line-Up:
Tom Abrigan – Guitars & Vocals
Karim Arnaout – Vocals
Laurent Duclouet – Drums
Bruno Morgana – Bass

Founded by professional musicians in 2019 and hailing from Marseille, France, Sunbeam Overdrive is mixing progressive metal and 90s alternative rock. They are eagerly anticipating the release of their debut album “Diama” in the Spring of this year and leading up to it, have dropped a single “Out Of Plato’s Cave” complete with a music video. The band shares the idea behind the track:

“It’s a very energetic piece with djent and progressive accents to compliment Plato’s allegory of the Cave, describing how difficult it is to look away from the illusions that easily feed our minds, to stand your ground when everyone around you thinks you’re a fool, to look for the light, for elevation, for the truth, and have the strength to keep your eyes and soul open when it hits you.”

The single is an excellent introduction to the album, as it showcases how the band expertly blends several different styles together. They believe this could surprise a lot of people, and please fans of multiple genres ranging from 90s grunge to modern djent.

This upcoming record is about elevation, travel, adventure, and energy. It’s meant to lift you up yet make you endure the storm both inside and outside of yourself. Although not designed as a concept album, “Diama” nevertheless turns out to be crossed implicitly by a coherent line, which appeared to them once the album was finished. This line is that of the crests of the summits, more precisely a notion of ascent, elevation, exterior as interior. It translates into the quasi-cinematic succession of pieces forming an initiatory journey throughout the 10 songs. It is recommended for fans of Alice In Chains, Meshuggah, and Tool.

Lyric Video – Out of Plato’s Cave

“Diama” will be released on May 12, 2023 by Tentacles Industries with distribution from Season of Mist.

“Diama” was engineered and mixed by Tom Abrigan and mastered by Brett Caldas-Lima (Devin Townsend Project, Megadeth, Cynic, Pain of Salvation) at Tower Studio, France.

Hard at work since day one, the band quickly released its first 3-track EP and performed their very first show at the famous German Euroblast Festival in October 2019. Sunbeam Overdrive was about to hit the stages when the Covid-19 pandemic started… In turn, and after a few line-up movements, they started producing their first full-length album “Diama”, to be released worldwide in 2023.

“…GOROD’s flair for the extreme in both musicianship and musicality is given plenty of breathing space to explore. Yes, the riffs are hard to play, but there is a sort of catchy playfulness in what is generally a 2serious4u type of music… With a penchant for the more progressive end of death metal… GOROD’s oddball songwriting and chord progressions are truly the shining point here.” – Decibel Magazine

“…the gold standard of technical death metal… In a style of music like tech-death, where there are literal hundreds of bands that are absurdly talented at performing intricate, elaborately layered songs, it takes something special to elevate yourself, and GOROD’s songwriting abilities have always been the extra factor that helps them stand out. The Orb serves as a helpful reminder that GOROD have earned every bit of hype and deserve every bit of respect that they get.” – No Clean Singing

“…there is a plethora of mind blowing talents throughout the ranks of the tech-death genre but GOROD display phenomenal ingenuity that few can contend with. The Orb is daringly inventive and doesn’t come close to becoming tiresome. This kind of style can easily become overwhelming but the French outfit have such a smooth, silky output that it’s simply a joy to exist in the same era as such a forward thinking collective.” – Distorted Sound

“The Orb is a technically masterful record written and arranged by musicians well-versed in their craft over decades in the scene. GOROD doesn’t shy away from introducing new elements, repurposing elements from other bands/genres, yet still anchoring their riffs and songs to a very firm and familiar ground.” – Metal Wani

“The level of compositional sophistication and instrumental dexterity… is stunning, and yet it is emblematic of GOROD’s approach across the entire album. They fuse devastating heaviness and smooth melodicism with ease and bolster their technical sleights of hand with intuitive song construction and catchy, accessible choruses.” – Last Rites

“The Orb showcases how important GOROD is for any metalhead and the genre as a whole. They show even at an older age they still have it and you can mix some groove with brain melting riffs and speeds. The band puts on an absolute masterclass on this album and you should take the time to absorb in it.” – Technical Music Review

“If you’re a longtime GOROD fan, you need this album. If you’re a new GOROD fan, you need this album” – Noob Heavy

“…the tech death… album for people who do not enjoy tech death.” – Nine Circles

“The Orb is a diverse and well-crafted album…one of their most wide-ranging, ambitious, versatile, and effective albums yet. If you’re a fan of forward-thinking heavy music, then don’t miss out on this.” – Wonderbox Metal

Montreal’s SANGUINE GLACIALIS “Welcome” Fans To New Music Off Third Album “Maladaptive Daydreaming”

Photographer Credit: Philippe Quinn

L-R – Jonathan Fontaine (Guitar & Back Vocals), Jérémy Racine (Drums & Back Vocals), Maude Théberge (Vocals, Keyboard & Violin), Marc Gervais (Bass & Back Vocals), Alexandre Lépine (Guitar & Back Vocals)

Montreal, QC’s Sanguine Glacialis (ft. members of Valfreya, the Growlers Choir, The Monster Factory) have a new lyric video to reveal the first single “Welcome” from their forthcoming album “Maladaptive Daydreaming” planned for release later this year to follow the band’s 2018 record “Hadopelagic”. Influenced by a vast array of musical styles such as jazz, classical, folk, symphonic, death, and black metal, the new full-length is a concept record about mental illness and an imaginary world that lives in the head of its main character, a subject that opens the door to many, many different ideas on the album.

“We’ve never been this hyped about a new album. The pandemic was great for this at least: we really took the time to compose and write to make the best album possible, and it shows. We pushed our limits once again to explore new styles and instruments. It’s a catchy melodic death metal album, yet progressive and dark as well. The lyrics are about an imaginary world created in someone’s mind to hide from reality, and how this world can suck you completely out of reality. It talks about different aspects of mental illness and how it’s lived inside someone’s mind. As a person with mental illness myself, I have a ton of content to work on. ” adds Maude Théberge (Vocals, Keyboard & Violin).

Today, the band presents the first single, “Welcome”, a track with many different surprises and invited guests. It sets the world in which the concept record takes place. It’s the perfect representation of what’s to come from their new album “Maladaptive Daydreaming”. The single starts with a clean intro with the violin, then switches to a catchy gang vocals chorus. There’s a saxophone and a guitar solo, and it ends with a brutal breakdown.

“Welcome is about the imaginary world calling for the lead character, but that world is not as fun and fulfilling as it may seem,” says Maude Théberge (Vocals, Keyboard & Violin).

Fans of Fleshgod Apocalypse, The Agonist, and Diablo Swing Orchestra will likely be interested in the genre-bending sounds of Sanguine Glacialis.

“It’s rather difficult to slot Sanguine Glacialis into one specific style because they utilise a good amount of approaches and genres into their music, such as death metal and symphonic metal, as well as more unusual styles such as classical and jazz. They have a very interesting sound as a result and it definitely helps them to stand out from the crowd…” Soundscape Magazine

“Sanguine Glacialis threw me a bit of a curve ball as I was expecting a similar showing stylistically, primarily because I could hear the singer warming up her falsetto backstage. To my delight, the group launched into a more groove filled progressive black metal vibe that was thoroughly entertaining. Singer Maude Théberge navigated her tiny frame through the cramped stage to play the role of both soprano and banshee while providing intermittent piano sections. The band’s performance, energy, and crowd interaction won the crowd and me over, and I’m excited to hear their new album in the fall.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews
