ABOUT I PREVAIL:
I Prevail have established themselves as the forerunners of the genre in the 21st century. Their latest release TRUE POWER, once again produced by Tyler Smyth, features the sort of stadium-sized riffs that will rattle your teeth loose from your gums and unforgettable, supremely catchy melodies that will camp out in your brain for weeks at a time. The band also alternately mixes screamed vocals that sound as though they crawled from the depths of hell with soaring, emotional vocals and heartfelt, intimate lyrics that go so deep, they hit marrow. The end result is an album that resonates with the listener in the most personal way. Rising to an arena level and receiving two Grammy nominations — Best Rock Album for Trauma and Best Metal Performance for crushing lead single “Bow Down” — I Prevail proved that they were built to last. To date, they’ve racked up more than 4.1 billion global streams, are approaching 700 million YouTube views, and saw both “Hurricane” and “Bad Things” singles top Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in 2020 and 2022 respectively. A number of their singles and album Lifelines have now been certified Gold and Platinum, and they have been praised by press far and wide, including Forbes, Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter, and NPR. I Prevail have affirmed their position among the genre’s elite.

SONATA ARCTICA Returns With Rapid New Digital Single, “First In Line;” Nordic Power Metal Titans European Tour To Commence This Weekend

SONATA ARCTICA:
Tony Kakko – vocals
Elias Viljanen – guitars
Pasi Kauppinen – bass
Henrik “Henkka” Klingenberg – keyboards
Tommy Portimo – drums

Stream SONATA ARCTICA’s “First In Line” HERE.

After two acoustic albums, SONATA ARCTICA have been secretly working on a new full-length. Fans can expect a return to their golden power metal roots on the group’s forthcoming opus. Slated for release in the Spring of 2024 via Atomic Fire, today the band is pleased to unveil a first taste of what’s to come with “First In Line.”

Frontman Tony Kakko elaborates, “This is the first power metal song I wrote for the forthcoming album which is laden with them. Its demo title was ‘First In Line’ and I managed to stick with it. The song handles the worry about raising a new generation of people with or rather letting an electronic screen — namely tv, pad, or some such — do a big part of raising this generation of human beings. We think that we buy ourselves time with these gadgets, but are these devices the right ‘nanny’ for our kids or should we maybe slow down a bit, read books, teach that happiness can be and often is something we reach by stopping and letting go of constant stimulation of all our audiovisual senses? In ways, we are flying blindly with these things. Things are advancing too fast in many ways…”

More details on SONATA ARCTICA’s upcoming full-length will be announced in the months to come.

In the meantime, stream/purchase “First In Line” at THIS LOCATION.

MESHUGGAH Unleashes Remastered Version Of “Sane” From Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Edition Of Chaosphere Full-Length, Coming November 10th, 2023 Via Atomic Fire; North American Headlining Tour Draws Near

Stream MESHUGGAH’s “Sane” HERE.

2023 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of one of MESHUGGAH’s earliest milestones: Chaosphere. Originally released on November 9th, 1998, the band’s third full-length studio album shows the band toning down some of the thrashier sounds of previous releases in favor of the more technical, polyrhythmic, groove-oriented sound they would go to explore on subsequent albums.

Wrote Revolver of the ground-breaking offering, “From the concrete-crushing opener ‘Concatenation’ to the barbed, apocalyptic ‘Elastic,’ which ends with almost twenty-minutes of feedback and noise, MESHUGGAH presents a relentless mechanical barrage of synapse-frying rhythms and trudging, off-kilter riffs.” Pitchfork concurred, “Paced more evenly than Destroy Erase Improve, the hard-thrashing Chaosphere offers a snapshot of MESHUGGAH at their most fluid, as an unrelenting procession of uptempo riffs swirls in a rhythmic vortex.” Added Sputnik Music, “Chaosphere stands as the band’s most robust statement; a progressive, complex beast that hints at both old and new yet stands out as MESHUGGAH’s most primal, raw and perhaps pure representation of their sound. It may seem contradictory to say this but through all of its contradictions, it becomes all things to all the qualities of good music. Highly recommended.”

To commemorate the album’s quarter-century anniversary, Atomic Fire will unleash a sonically updated version of the album on November 10th. The re-release of this masterpiece comes in hi-def audio remastered by Thomas Eberger and Sofia von Hage at Stockholm Mastering on all streaming platforms, as well as a jewel case CD edition (incl. 8-page booklet), and stunning new vinyl colors (most are limited worldwide to under 1500 of each color, 180 grams, 2cLP in 5 mm Sleeve incl. 2-page insert), to complete every collector’s dream.

It is impossible to talk about experimental or avant garde metal without mentioning long-running metal icons, MESHUGGAH. Since forming in 1987 in Umeå, Sweden, MESHUGGAH has developed into one of the most technically complex and virtuosic groups of players the metal realm has ever encountered, their distinctly unique brand of progressive, groove‐infused extreme metal inadvertently launching an entirely new subgenre. OBLIVION PROTOCOL: Long-Awaited Debut Full-Length, The Fall Of The Shires, Out Now On Atomic Fire Records

The official unveiling of The Fall Of The Shires, the debut full-length from OBLIVION PROTOCOL out now.

OBLIVION PROTOCOL is the prog rock/metal supergroup led by Threshold keyboard player and songwriter Richard West. The band’s lineup is completed with three renowned musicians: guitarist Ruud Jolie (Within Temptation), bassist Simon Andersson (Darkwater), and drummer Darby Todd (Devin Townsend). Additionally, Threshold’s Karl Groom has contributed some truly enthralling guitar solos to the record.

Written as a sequel to Threshold’s 2017 concept album Legends Of The Shires, The Fall Of The Shires delivers a dense, climactic sound somewhere between Rush, Steven Wilson, The Dark Side Of The Moon-era Pink Floyd, and hard rock masters Ghost, all the while providing the listener with clever little nods, bows and references to the first installment.

“I’ve loved concept albums since I was young,” Westunderlines. “I remember wanting to make one when I was in bands at school. So, I found making Legends…very fulfilling and was immediately drawn to the idea of making another one.”

The record’s album cover, designed by celebrated artist Thomas Ewerhard who was responsible for so many of Threshold’s classic covers such as Hypothetical and Subsurface, depicts the downfall of the world shown on Legends Of The Shires.

The Fall Of The Shires is available as CD-digipak, LP, and digitally. Order yours today at THIS LOCATION.

“Musically immaculate, melodically strong and lyrically absorbing, OBLIVION PROTOCOL’s first outing is more than strong enough to pave the way for more flights of conceptual fancy in the future.” – Blabbermouth

“…a must for all Threshold fans… The Fall Of The Shires deserved not only to be made but heard and enjoyed by fans and anyone who loves epic prog.” – Progressive Music Planet

“Those who love a seventies-sounding progressive rock endeavor with aspects of pop and metal sprinkled in should find plenty to enjoy here.” – Dead Rhetoric

ANGRA: Cycles Of Pain Available For Preorder; Guests And Other Album Details Revealed

ANGRA:
Fabio Lione – vocals
Rafael Bittencourt – guitars
Marcelo Barbosa – guitars
Felipe Andreoli – bass
Bruno Valverde – drums

Preorder ANGRA’s Cycles Of Pain HERE.

Brazilian progressive power metal legends ANGRA recently signed a deal with German-based record label Atomic Fire Records. The band’s upcoming studio album Cycles Of Pain is due out on November 3rd. Today, ANGRA is pleased to announce that the record is already available for preorder before their first digital single, “Ride Into The Storm,” is unveiled to the world next week, on Friday, August 4th.

Guitarist Rafael Bittencourt states, “This is a very special record for us for several reasons: First, much has happened since our last release in 2018. During the last five years, we experienced a lot of pain — personally and collectively — alongside challenges, frustrations, glories, and successes, on a rollercoaster of emotions that became a giant cauldron of subjects and inspirations. In the year 2019, my father passed away and a few months later also Andre Matos died; that had a big impact on my life. I know the struggles of my bandmates too.

“This is a dense album of experiences and accumulated pain. Although we are in a great moment, the album draws inspiration from all pains experienced to bring reflections on them from different angles: What hurts us, how it arrives, the cure, the trauma, the scars. We avoid and we are faced with pain constantly from birth, in an endless cycle; we want it to be far away, but it is what molds and matures us during life. And in the midst of such a profound topic, we want to bring hope and strength to people who are suffering right now. I believe this album will make a difference in the lives of many people and will set a new standard within our style.”

Bassist Felipe Andreoli, “Cycles Of Pain brings different perspectives on human pain and the cycles that involve it. It reminds us that while pain is inevitable, it is also an integral part of growing and learning. By recognizing and facing these cycles, we can discover our inner strength and find a path to healing and transformation. The album leads us to contemplate our own journey of pain and to embrace the hope that despite the seemingly endless cycles, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. It is an invitation to reflect on the complexities of human pain, addressing topics such as loss, disillusionment, loneliness and despair, but also bringing a message of resilience and hope.”

Cycles Of Pain was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by long-time ANGRA partner Dennis Ward (D.C. Cooper, Pink Cream 69, Place Vendome) at the Sonastério & Elephant Office in Brazil, while mixing and mastering took place at The TrakShak in Karlsdorf, Germany. Its artwork was designed by Erick Pasqua before Jonathan Canuto took care of layout duties.

“The combination of elements — an angel of death with bright, worn wings adorned with religious and pagan symbols, a dark forest with fire and rain, the prevalence of Brazilian elements — conveys a deeper narrative regarding the album’s theme and musical interpretation. It conveys the idea that pain is a recurring and transformative experience, encompassing spiritual and earthly aspects and encouraging us to delve into the depths of our own pain, explore its many dimensions and find strength and healing in the journey of these cycles,” explains Andreoli.

The album also features a range of guests including appearances by Amanda Somerville (“Tears Of Blood”), Brazilian artists Lenine (“Vida Seca”) and Vanessa Moreno (“Tide Of Changes – Part II” and “Here In The Now”), and Juliana D’Agostini on piano (“Tears Of Blood”).

Cycles Of Pain will be available in the following formats: digipak CD, jewel case CD, vinyl in various color variants (Red/Yellow Split, Clear/Blue Marbled, Clear Yellow/White Splatter), and digitally.

ANGRA’s metal leadership began over thirty years ago in 1991. Hailing since then as one of the finest metal acts originating from South America, the last decade saw the addition of vocalist Fabio Lione (Athena Xix, ex-Rhapsody Of Fire, ex-Vision Divine etc.) to their ranks. With Rafael Bittencourt and Marcelo Barbosa on guitars, Felipe Andreoli on bass, and Bruno Valverde on drums, ANGRA has been keeping the momentum and now they are ready to release their long-awaited tenth studio album through their new label partner, Atomic Fire Records.

MESHUGGAH released their critically adored Immutablefull-length last year via Atomic Fire. Recorded at Sweetspot Studios in Halmstad, Sweden, mixed by Rickard Bengtsson and Staffan Karlsson, and mastered by multiple Grammy award winner Vlado Meller (Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System Of A Down), the band’s ninth studio album and follow-up to their Grammy-nominated full-length The Violent Sleep Of Reason showcases just how far ahead of the pack the band continues to be. Full of surprises and yet instantly recognizable as the work of metal’s most idiosyncratic force, Immutable redefines and redesigns the MESHUGGAH sound across more than an hour of the most stimulating and engaging music the band has ever composed.

Immutable is available on CD, vinyl, cassette, and digital formats. Find ordering options and additional merchandise at THIS LOCATION.

“Stomping tracks like ‘God He Sees in Mirrors,’ ‘I Am That Thirst,’ and recent single ‘Light the Shortening Fuse’ make brilliant use of the band’s signature ouroboros-like riff style, which bombards the would-be headbanger with complex rhythmic data while laying down an irresistible groove…” — Rolling Stone

“Sweden’s djent progenitors are one of the most unconventional, yet consistent, bands in heavy music. Their ninth full-length continues this sterling legacy, assaulting the senses with an array of battering drums, snarling vocals, syncopated rhythms, razor-sharp guitar and head-spinning solos.” — Revolver

“Haake remains one of the most unique players to ever step behind a drumkit. There are times where it seems impossible that it is all the work of one set of hands. Cerebral time signature changes and palm-muted chords are still staples of this band’s music.” — Metal Injection

“…gigantic, ophidian, undeniable. Probably the most important metal band on the planet.” — Knotfest

“…the band’s most adventurous, progressive, diverse and downright peculiar album to date. It is also their longest, at a generous and mind-expanding 67 minutes, and… frequently the heaviest and most brutal thing to ever bear their name. They may have nothing to prove, but MESHUGGAH are proving it anyway, possibly just because they can.” — Blabbermouth

LORDI Announces New Album Screem Writers Guild; Video/Single “Lucyfer Prime Evil” Now Playing + Preorders Available

LORDI:
Mr. Lordi – vocals
Kone – guitars
Hiisi – bass
Hella – keyboard
Mana – drums

Come one, come all, to preview the new blockbuster – ahem, album – from the world’s favorite hard rock monsters, LORDI, who are set to add the next chapter to their spooky history. Today, the quintet announces their eighteenth studio album, Screem Writers Guild, scheduled to see release on March 31st via their new label home, Atomic Fire Records.

Its title — a “LORDIfied” play on words — is a reference to the “Screen Writers Guild,” an association of Hollywood screenplay writers (1920s to 1950s), yet there is no doubt that LORDI’s musical version is much louder and fiercer. “The record itself isn’t a real concept album, but it obviously plays with the overall cinematic theme,” says Mr. Lordi.

The news of the release is accompanied by the unveiling of the track “Lucyfer Prime Evil” alongside a lyric video, drawn by Kaarle and scripted and edited by mastermind Mr. Lordi himself.

Mr. Lordi explains, “This is the first chance for the fans to hear our new guitar player Kone in action on a record. He is doing a pretty lengthy guitar solo on the track, with Hella backing him up by keyboard harmonies here and there. It’s also the very first time in LORDI’s history that you can actually hear the whole band sing backing vocals on this album. Story-wise, ‘Lucyfer Prime Evil’ gives quite a good example of the themes and lyrical content that await you on the record: it’s a horror story… like an eerie horror movie theme song. Although this song isn’t really based on any particular horror movie, the conceptual theme of what to expect from the whole album should come across pretty clear.”

View “Lucyfer Prime Evil” at THIS LOCATION. Stream/purchase the track HERE

Screem Writers Guild was produced by Mr. Lordi with Mana and Janne Halmkrona as executive producers. Ilkka Herkman took care of mixing and Pauli Saastamoinen mastered the record. The artwork was also designed by Mr. Lordi himself who has made a name as director for the band’s vision since the early ’90s.

Screem Writers Guild will be available in the following formats:

Limited Collector’s Box Set – Includes alternative cover artwork, digipak CD, 2xLP in gatefold, exclusive Live At Masters Of RockDVD featuring five live songs, five band member portrait art prints plus LORDI notebook.

MESHUGGAH To Issue Remastered Fifteenth Anniversary Edition Of ObZen Full-Length March 31st Via Atomic Fire; Preorders Available

2023 marks fifteen years since the release of ObZen, the groundbreaking sixth studio album from long-running metal icons MESHUGGAH.

Another masterpiece of musical diversity and surprises standing among an already sonically astounding discography, the 2008-released ObZen contains the band’s monster hit, “Bleed” – the song that tore through the industry like a shockwave leaving fans and musician friends alike simply awestruck. In a glowing review of the record, Blabbermouth accurately surmised of ObZen, “This is a distillation of the band’s last fifteen years of mindfucking into a defining statement so cleverly-crafted, it manages to come across as monolithic and opaque even with a million skittering moving parts. Pure MESHUGGAH, pure chaos, pure control.” Metal Injection concurred noting, “The album is laced with all the elements MESHUGGAH fans have come to expect from the band — the angular riffs; the discordant, eerie guitar solos; the polyrhythms and complex arrangements — but here these elements are melded together into one seamless product which represents a band at the pinnacle of their career.”

In celebration of ObZen’s fifteenth anniversary, Atomic Fire will unleash a sonically updated version of the album, remastered by Thomas Eberger and Sofia von Hage at Stockholm Mastering. The re-release of this masterpiece comes in hi-def audio on all streaming platforms, as well as a beautifully enhanced digipak featuring a twenty-page booklet and stunning 180-gram gatefold double vinyl in several marbled and splatter color variants (limited worldwide to under 1500 of each). The special edition will be released on March 31st.

Preorder yours today at THIS LOCATION.

Crowned “one of the ten most important hard and heavy bands,” by Rolling Stone, the band has earned the respect and admiration from fans and musicians alike. Stay tuned for more MESHUGGAH news in the coming weeks.
