GOATWHORE continues to tour in support of their acclaimed Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heavenfull-length released in October of 2022 via Metal Blade Records. Their most accomplished composition to date in sound, concept, and execution, the twelve-track offering earned the #9 position on Billboard’s Current Hard Music Albums chart upon its first week of release.

Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven was produced by Jarrett Pritchard (Exhumed, 1349), and tracked primarily at Studio In The Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana under pandemic restrictions. The band recruited acclaimed producer Kurt Ballou (Converge, High On Fire, Gatecreeper, Code Orange) to mix the record with final mastering duties handled by Grammy-award winning engineer Ted Jensen (Ghost, Gojira, Cult Of Luna). The record is tied together by the art of longtime collaborator Jordan Barlow.

“Angels… consistently rages without ever devolving into the samey sounding banality that plagues so many less adept practitioners. Angels… just gets better the longer it plays.” – Decibel Magazine

“Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven proves yet again that one of the hardest working bands in metal can continue to impress us with their tried and true brand of blackened extremity.” – Metal Injection

GOATWHORE has begun a new campaign of terror with this album, channeling their darkest and most malicious release in some time.” – Lambgoat

“If you love war metal, this pick will be right up your alley. It assaults you with blitzkrieg strength. This evil offering is pleasantly raw. Yet, it is also a polished and mature work. GOATWHORE will catch you off guard with soaring guitar solos and the like.” – MetalSucks

“Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven cherry-picks the best bits from various subgenres — the guttural intensity of death metal, the trilling majesty of black metal — and assembles them into songs that feel almost regal in their hateful conviction.” – Spin Magazine’s 10 Best Metal Albums Of 2022

“The blackened thrash remains up front, as Falgoust’s growls and Duet’s riffs and sinister solos coalesce with the determined rhythms of Simmons and Coleman. GOATWHORE ascends to eviscerate all expectations. Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven exceeds the related genre’s boundaries and redefines their sound and place in the landscape of metal.” – New Noise Magazine

“… all killer with no filler… Whatever the future may hold for GOATWHORE, Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven proves that the band is at the top of its game, and that it has much more to offer.” – Blabbermouth

Portland Death Metal Outfit DRIPPING DECAY Premieres Wormridden Piety From Ripping Remains EP To Be Released Next Month Via Satanik Royalty Records

Listen to Wormridden Piety” from Portland deathgrind quartet DRIPPING DECAY. The ravaging new single comes by way of the band’s forthcoming Ripping Remains EP, set for release on January 26th, 2024 via Satanik Royalty Records

Unwilling to rest on their laurels while waiting for Festering Grotesqueries to be released, vocalist Eric Stucke, guitarist “Maniac” Neil Smith, bassist Jackson Jordan, and drummer Jason “The Machine” Borton spent the Summer of 2023 composing Ripping Remains. The six-song concatenation of casket-crushing brutality sees the band mesh their trademark blend of Repulsion, Autopsy, and Terrorizer with facets of thrash and grindcore both new and old. The result is a fast and furious yet well-rounded listen, proving the band’s technical prowess without sacrificing mosh-worthy hooks and moments of crawling, ominous dirge.

Latest single, “Wormridden Piety,” consists of every element that makes the band memorable: furious blasting, a grinding d-beat edge, hooking, moshable riffs, and a mid-section that will make you want to fight a house. Throw in a manic solo and lyrics describing the gastrointestinal pyrotechnics created in the intestines of Benedictine monks riddled with tapeworms, and you’ve got yourself a bonafide death metal classic!

LISTEN TO WORMRIDDEN PIETY HERE

Tracked in the familiar confines of Portland’s legendary Falcon Studios, Ripping Remains was put to tape by DRIPPING DECAY’s unofficial fifth member Derek Leisy, who also assumes mixing duties after the retirement of Festering Grotesqueries mixing engineer Vincent Detto. Leisy lends a more vicious, grind-centric edge to the proceedings, contrasting the grotesque, gut-punch production of the full-length with a sharp slice of the metal-phoric scalpel, proving himself more than worthy of the producer’s role. Mastering engineer extraordinaire Dan Lowndes, alumnus of both previous DRIPPING DECAY releases, returns to round out the recording, which also features a guest vocal appearance by August “Gurge” Ivanoff (Lord Gore) and a rightfully “ripping” cover of “Trick Or Treat,” originally penned by Detroit speed metal legends Halloween for their 1985 debut Don’t Metal With Evil.

Ripping Remains will be released on all streaming services as well as CD, cassette, and vinyl in Black, Orange/Green, and Yellow w/ Lime Splatter.

Find preorders at the Satanik Royalty webshop HERE or Bandcamp HERE where the band’s cover of “Trick Or Treat” can be streamed.

INCANTATION unleashed their latest studio album, Unholy Deification, via Relapse Records on August 25th.

Edified over three-plus decades of experience, Unholy Deification is INCANTATION’s thirteenth full-length album. Validated by peers seasoned and new, INCANTATION is more vital than ever. The lineup, featuring founding guitarist/vocalist John McEntee, drummer Kyle Severn, bassist Chuck Sherwood, and guitarist Luke Shively, displays death metal know-how and the power of determination.

Lyrically, Unholy Deification originates with Sherwood. An avid reader and occult logician, the INCANTATIONbassist wanted to capture a fully realized concept of evolution through enlightenment. Expect thought-provoking, historically derived intellection. The mortal-to-deity narrative interacts with the merciless musical conflagration of hard-hitting tracks such as “Concordat (The Pact) I,” “Homunculus (Spirit Made Flesh) IX,” and “Invocation (Chthonic Merge) X”. Make no mistake – the ferocious new album, featuring guests Jeff Beccera (Possessed), Henry Veggian (ex-Revenant), and Dan Vadim Von (Morbid Angel), is pure death metal.

INCANTATION‘s sepulchral pandemonium is visually enhanced by award-winning artist and longstanding collaborator Eliran Kantor (Immolation, Kreator, Cavalera, and more.) The end result is an interpretation of Italian Renaissance masters but thrust into INCANTATION‘s cauldron of chromatic malice.

McEntee comments, “I’m not interested in playing it safe. I think other people feel that there are limits to what we do. However, I don’t see it that way. If it feels right, then it’s INCANTATION. The songs we write are an honest expression of ourselves. When people hear the new album, I hope they think, ‘Why are these guys so pissed off?!’ Rage gives focus, which is why this album turned out the way it did.”

Physical Unholy Deification orders are available via Relapse.com HERE. Digital downloads/streaming are available HERE.

One of the best death metal albums of 2023, easily.” – Metal Injection (10/10)

“Another twisted helping of subterranean old-school doomy death metal.” Decibel Magazine

“Twelve albums in, INCANTATION continue to lay the groundwork upon which the death metal genre as a whole can build upon. And despite their already stellar reputation, the relevance of this album and this band in 2023 is pretty damn impressive.” – MetalSucks

“Unholy Deification is a spirited, aggressive, angry death metal affair, an offering that shows why this band is rightly hailed as death metal royalty.” – Last Rites

“INCANTATION’s legacy as underground brutal legends has long been solidified, but Unholy Deification proves that they have more than enough creative and musical inspiration and passion to easily run with the bands they’ve influenced. Simply put, if you’re an INCANTATION aficionado, or a fan of any death metal that’s uncompromising, unsettling and with an experimental edge, then you cannot miss Unholy Deification.” – Wall Of Sound

“… a supremely impressive artistic achievement… a dissonant, warped occult death metal album made by fans of such musical fare, for fans of such musical fare… one hell of an experience, but certainly not one to step into lightly. Tread carefully.” – Metal Observer

PER WIBERG: Swedish Multi-Instrumentalist To Release The Serpent’s Here Full-Length February 9th, 2024 Via Despotz Records; Title Track Streaming + Preorders Available

Stream PER WIBERG’s “The Serpent’s Here” at THIS LOCATION.

Swedish multi-instrumentalist PER WIBERG today unveils his brilliant new track, “The Serpent’s Here.” It’s the first single taken from his upcoming album of the same name, set for release on February 9th, 2024 via Despotz Records.

Stream the track now at THIS LOCATION.

As an unrivaled musical alchemist, WIBERG’s work has illuminated an array of now-classic albums over the years performing with the likes of Opeth, Spiritual Beggars, and Candlemass, as well as Clutch/The Bakerton Group, Switchblade, and Kamchatka, among others, for over thirty years. However, it’s WIBERG’s solo conjurings that serve as the zenith of his musical voyages.

In 2019, WIBERG released his debut solo offering, Head Without Eyes. A record of Nordic prog submerged in a gnawing stew of jolting guitar notes and emotive melodies, WIBERG’s debut laid bare an unexplored sonic landscape that surpassed the successes of his past and solidified his strong presence as a unique solo artist in his own right. WIBERG followed Head Without Eyes with his equally stunning 2021-released All Is Well In The Land Of The Living, But For The Rest Of Us… Lights Out EP, a compelling celebration of innovative rock at its finest. Expanding and further evolving his vision, WIBERG expertly composed the definitive and established paradigms of traditional progressive rock with spirited and electrifying twists of dark tone. The Metal Observer hailed, “a great EP that serves as a fitting soundtrack to these strange, dark times,” adding, “its thick, otherworldly atmospheres represent a gloriously dark and hallucinated take on Scandinavian prog that weaves together WIBERG’s many musical influences and takes them to the next level of dark melodic exploration.

The Serpent’s Here continues WIBERG’s innovative trajectory boasting six consuming tracks, plus a fantastically gloomy rendition of Warrior Soul’s “The Losers,” that are at once grim and surreal; airy yet ominous. WIBERG paints vivid sound tapestries with his clever sense of dynamics and thoughtful lyricism. Each song moves with alluring subtlety and suspense, not unlike the conventions of classic film noir. And while WIBERG strays far from the traditional musical constructs, there’s an inescapable melodicism and intrinsic catchiness to his output that makes even his most experimental outpourings seamlessly accessible.

“The music has a strong familiar identity I’d say,” notes WIBERG, “It’s heavy in its tone but this time a little braver, uptempo, loose, and ‘rock’n’roll’ compared to the previous two albums. Overall, this is the most epic sounding of my stuff so far. Things are more defined. I worked hard with lyrics and vocal arrangements this time.”

On The Serpent’s Here, WIBERG is joined by drummer Tor Sjödén (Viagra Boys) who played drums on the previous EP, as well as bassist Mikael Tuominen (Kungens Män). Basic live tracks (drums, basses, grand piano) were recorded at Studio Gröndahl by David Castillo and, as with previous releases, the record was mixed and mastered by Jonas Kjellgren at Blacklounge Studios.

“All songs are built from rough song sketches that I showed Tor and Mikael,” elaborates WIBERG of The Serpent’s Here’s writing process. “The idea was that they could improvise. All basic tracks were recorded live in an afternoon to give it that extra spontaneous energy, and then I’d layer keys, guitars, and vocals on top of what we recorded. Overall, there are more guitars this time as well as two basses on the majority of the tracks.”

Stay tuned for more track teasers from the record to be revealed in the weeks to come.

MESHUGGAH: Remastered Version Of “The Mouth Licking What You’ve Bled” Now Playing; Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Edition Of Monumental Chaosphere Full-Length Nears Release

In keeping with the countdown to the release of the remastered, twenty-fifth anniversary edition of their monolithic Chaosphere full-length, today Swedish metal titans MESHUGGAH unleash “The Mouth Licking What You’ve Bled.”

Pulverizing both musically and thematically, the cynical track explores the topic of depravity and embracing one’s own flawed nature. It also examines the many universal evils found within society, showcasing the darker aspects of the human condition.

Stream MESHUGGAH’s updated version of “The Mouth Licking What You’ve Bled” at THIS LOCATION.

Stream the band’s remastered versions of “Sane” HERE and “Neurotica” HERE.

Chaosphere stands among MESHUGGAH’s earliest milestones. Originally released on November 9th, 1998, the band’s third full-length studio album shows the band toning down some of the thrashier sounds of previous releases in favor of the more technical, polyrhythmic, groove-oriented sound they would go to explore on subsequent albums.

To honor this quarter-century-old landmark offering, Atomic Fire is set to release a sonically updated version of Chaosphere by Thomas Eberger and Sofia von Hage at Stockholm Mastering on November 10th. This masterpiece is available for preorders on major streaming platforms, while physical enthusiasts can anticipate its release in jewel case CD format with an eight-page booklet, as well as collector’s vinyl editions with new, limited-color variants, each a collector’s gem.

Explore all ordering options here: Meshuggah.afr.link/Chaosphere.

Following the record’s release, MESHUGGAHwill return to US and Canadian stages for a nineteen-date headlining tour with support provided by special guests In Flames and Whitechapel. The tour marks the first time in five years MESHUGGAH has played on Canadian soil. The final show will also include the addition of Voivod. Tickets are on sale now and selling fast. DRIPPING DECAY: Portland Death Metallers To Unleash Ripping Remains EP January 26th, 2024 Via Satanik Royalty Records. Cover Of Halloween’s “Trick Or Treat” Now Playing. Preorders Available

Stream DRIPPING DECAY’s cover of Halloween’s “Trick Or Treat” HERE.

Hot on the heels of blistering debut album, Festering Grotesqueries, Portland deathgrind quartet DRIPPING DECAY spews forth the Ripping Remains EP, a six-song concatenation of casket-crushing brutality.

Unwilling to rest on their laurels while waiting for Festering Grotesqueries to be released, vocalist Eric Stucke, guitarist “Maniac” Neil Smith, bassist Jackson Jordan, and drummer Jason “The Machine” Borton spent the Summer of 2023 crafting Ripping Remains, which sees the band mesh their trademark blend of Repulsion, Autopsy, and Terrorizer with facets of thrash and grindcore both new and old. Tracked in the familiar confines of Portland’s legendary Falcon Studios, Ripping Remains was put to tape by DRIPPING DECAY’s unofficial fifth member Derek Leisy, who also assumes mixing duties after the retirement of Festering Grotesqueriesmixing engineer Vincent Detto. Leisy lends a more vicious, grind-centric edge to the proceedings, contrasting the grotesque, gut-punch production of the full-length with a sharp slice of the metal-phoric scalpel, proving himself more than worthy of the producer’s role. Mastering engineer extraordinaire Dan Lowndes, alumnus of both previous DRIPPING DECAYreleases, returns to round out the recording, which also features a guest vocal appearance by August “Gurge” Ivanoff (Lord Gore) and a rightfully “ripping” cover of “Trick Or Treat,” originally penned by Detroit speed metal legends Halloween for their 1985 debut Don’t Metal With Evil.

With their rendition of “Trick Or Treat,” DRIPPING DECAYshows not only their subgenre-ranging playing ability but also an appreciation for the underground. DARKPLACE Releases The Final Pieces Of An Epic Tale With New Album, About The End Of The World, Out Today On Icons Creating Evil Art

Watch DARKPLACE’s About The End Of The World album visualizer HERE.

DARKPLACE is an anonymous band that has recently emerged onto the music scene. Their music is rooted in post punk but incorporates elements of experimental rock, alternative, and a variety of other genres in their sound among which experimental rock, alt-pop, and shoegaze are prominent. The debut album About The End Of The World, out today digitally on Icons Creating Evil Art, is a monumental release speaking not only through the medium of sound, but also through stunningly glum digital paintings and animations.

The concept behind the album is centered around a grim future, or perhaps present, where the world is depicted through digital paintings in the accompanying music videos. The imagery is inspired by the bleak landscape of Stockholm’s Västerort, but with a unique and imaginative twist.

DARKPLACE’s debut single “Arken Över Hesselby,” which translates to “The Ark Over Hesselby,” pointed towards an alternative version of the Stockholm suburb of Hässelby. Its video depicted a familiar cityscape, haunted by an unknown presence viewed from the sky. The story continues in the second single, “Fearmonger,” where we bear witness to another part of the same daunting universe, to witness the fate of a lone foot soldier as he faces the ominous skyship. Third single, “Cars,” moves on to the story of a man travelling north, following cryptic messages written on highway signs that mysteriously only show up in the blast of his headlights. Fourth single, “This Is Loud,” brings things to yet another Stockholm suburb, this time in the south, where the jarring presence of huge stone crosses terrorizes the population.

“I couldn’t go out anymore, I didn’t feel safe. It was all connected, I don’t know how but we all knew it was part of something bigger. In secret forums we discussed. We knew what it meant, the world was ending. Is it possible to survive this? Will we all go mad? Nowhere is safe.”

Watch DARKPLACE’s final video of this epic with “The End” at THIS LOCATION.

Order About The End Of The World at THIS LOCATION where a stunning visualizer of the full record is now playing.

Most of the instrumental songs on About The End Of The World were written with a specific dramaturgy and story in mind, which shows in the cinematic short movie-like music videos. DARKPLACE gives us an intriguing insight into their creative process. “The first idea for an animation was ‘Arken Över Hesselby.’ We started creating the art before we had the music, so the piece is written as a soundtrack to the animation.”

The art is a multi-layered process that involves photography, sculpting, oil painting, digital editing, and animation. DARKPLACE elaborates, “For structures, [the sculpting and painting mobile application] Nomad Sculpt is used to form it, then the motives are exported in the specific angle each scene requires and is imported into Procreate [a raster graphics editor app for digital painting] to be painted there. We use oil paintbrushes and paint over the photo. It is layers upon layers, and it gets messy. Exporting gets even messier since we want depth in the scenes and need to export them in layered depths. A few scenes in this project have been animated frame by frame as well. This project has taken almost two years so far, so we try to kept it to a minimal.”

It comes as no surprise that DARKPLACE is about far more than just releasing excellent music. It’s an art project that seeks to explore and comment on the state of the world through audio and visuals. As a new and enigmatic force in the music landscape, DARKPLACE is sure to turn heads with their innovative approach to creating art.

Icons Creating Evil Art will release DARKPLACE’s About The End Of The World digitally with the vinyl edition to follow in the weeks to come.

CATTLE DECAPITATION Unleashes “Solastalgia” Video; The Terrasitic Infestation North American Headlining Tour Draws Near

West Coast deathgrind practitioners CATTLE DECAPITATIONtoday unleash their brand new video for “Solastalgia.” The track comes by way of the band’s critically lauded tenth studio album, Terrasite, released earlier this year via Metal Blade Records. The video was directed by David Brodsky and vocalist Travis Ryan and produced by Allison Woest for My Good Eye: Music Visuals.

Watch the band’s previously released videos for “We Eat Our Young” HERE, “Scourge Of The Offspring” HERE, and “A Photic Doom” HERE.

Though many bands have tried, no one articulates the real apocalypse humanity is facing as vividly and succinctly as CATTLE DECAPITATION. With 2019’s Death Atlas, they reached the apex of this, perhaps leading some to believe they had no place left to go beyond such an achievement, but alas, the band returned with Terrasite, which is as bold a statement as they have ever made. Roaring to life with the savage yet hauntingly melodic “Terrasitic Adaptation” and advancing through the likes of the relentless “We Eat Our Young” and culminating with the ten-plus minutes of “Just Another Body,” Terrasite is an album that constantly shifts dynamics and demands a variety of emotional responses. The record crushed Billboard charts upon its first week of release, earning the #2 position on the Current Hard Music Albums chart, #3 on the Current Independent Albums chart, #4 on the Rock Albums chart and more!

Terrasite features the artwork by longtime collaborator Wes Benscoter (Vader, Kreator, Bloodbath, Hypocrisy), was produced by Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage, Allegaeon) and includes Dis Pater of Midnight Odyssey handling piano and synths.

“Terrasite is the next important step for a consistently excellent band…” – Decibel Magazine

“Since their early 2000s classics like To Serve Man and Humanure, the group have only gotten more extreme and unique doling out late-career highlights like 2012’s Monolith Of Inhumanity and this year’s Terrasite. Congrats, boys.” – Revolver’s Top Six Death Metal Band’s Right Now

“…another absolutely stellar release from these guys with lyrics and themes that represent the apex of today’s extreme music.” – Metal Injection

“…a powerful and important album. It is a must-listen for fans of extreme metal, and it is also a great album for anyone who cares about the future of our planet.” – MetalSucks

“They’ve evolved from a grind band into something even more maniacal with this album; a true and brilliantly executed hybrid of heavy death metal, brutal grind and lyrical terror.” – Lambgoat

“…a phenomenal album that’s well worth the time of extreme metal fans who want to hear a band perpetually push itself.” – Blabbermouth

“…a brutal and uncompromising display of technical deathgrind. The band have been steadily pushing the boundaries of the genre for over 25 years, and this album is no exception.” – Invisible Oranges

“CATTLE DECAPITATION willingly wallow in the worst offerings of humanity (and whatever follows us). It makes their music sicker, slimier, and weaponized for pushing back against the same injustices and ills we propagate. As such, Terrasite is a brutal exercise in knowing your enemy – it just so happens the enemy is yourself.” – Everything Is Noise

ULCERATE released their critically lauded full-length, Stare Into Death And Be Still, in the Spring of 2020 via Debemur Morti Productions. A next-level exploration of melody, harmony, and power, the band’s signature, ultra-atmospheric blend of unorthodox death metal with the textures of futurist black metal is here pared-down with the consummate hand of experience, giving stunning credence to the riff, the song, and the meaning.

Thematically, the album explores the concept of “death reverence” – drawing on personal experience to confront the truism that death and tragedy aren’t always sudden or violent, that people are often passive observers trapped “in the silent horror of observing death calmly and cleanly.”

Stare Into Death And Be Still is the deepest, purest, and most meticulous form ofULCERATE: a soul-searching conflagration of atypical melodicism, immaculate virtuosic dexterity and sublimated psychological upheaval. A breathtaking new beginning for one of the most uniquely talented bands in extreme music.

Stare Into Death And Be Still is available on CD, LP, and digital formats at THIS LOCATION.

“… Michael Hoggard’s guitars billow like noxious clouds, as bassist-vocalist Paul Kelland roars ominously over the top, and drummer Jamie Saint Merat expertly juggles crushing density and lean groove… the way the guitars and drums dance around one another makes it feel like time is warping… one of its grandest, most unsettling tracks to date…” – Rolling Stone on Stare Into Death And Be Still’s title track

“It’s as if everything the band recorded through 2016’s Shrine Of Paralysis is made of Legos, and Stare Into Death And Be Still is a fucking universe: brand-new, raw, seething and festering with possibilities redolent of life as much as death — but first and foremost cosmic.” – Decibel

“ULCERATE have spearheaded a singular sound and vision: seasick and disharmonic, chaotic and otherworldly, Lovecraftian in its cosmic horror. The group’s latest LP continues ULCERATE‘s fearless exploration of atmosphere and aggression while, thematically, delving into the concept of ‘death reverence.’” – Revolver

“Their core sound always showed insane promise, wedding the experimental edge of Immolation’s best records to the wilder side of Deathspell Omega and Gorguts, then polishing it to an industrial shine… Here the songs breathe, edging away from the airless aggression of the older records. Melody creeps in, and with it a thin shaft of light.. it’s really no less punishing. The melody just helps it go down. This is how I relax now…” – Stereogum

“…a truly intense musical expression, but not in the typical sense… Stare Into Death And Be Still isn’t an easy release to consume, but it’s rewarding on the deepest and most profound levels for those who are patient enough to allow ULCERATE to work their magic.” – Blabbermouth
