About Metal Blade Records:
Founded upon owner Brian Slagel‘s enduring drive to find great bands and get their music out to as many people as possible, since 1982 Metal Blade has brought wave after wave of powerful, innovative, and often genre-defining music to the ever-hungry metal masses. It is this ethos that has seen Metal Blade build up a stunning and diverse catalog, weather the various storms facing any independent label, and in an age of declining record sales boast the most successful years of its existence as it celebrates its fourth decade.

Metal Blade Records launched MetallicaSlayerArmored SaintFates WarningGWARCannibal CorpseAmon AmarthWhitechapelThe Black Dahlia MurderCattle Decapitation, and dozens more genre giants, shaping four decades and counting of hard rock, metal, and extreme music culture. Brian Slagel worked as a record store clerk when he founded Metal Blade in 1982, reserving a spot for a young Lars Ulrich on his Metal Massacre compilation series. Metal Blade grew from humble beginnings in Los Angeles to become an international powerhouse, selling millions of albums while remaining fiercely independent. In 2017, Slayer‘s Kerry King inducted the label into the Hall of Heavy Metal HistorySlagel‘s For the Sake of Heaviness: The History of Metal Blade Records arrived the same year.

In 2022 Metal Blade Records celebrated its 40th Anniversary by way of two live shows in Las Vegas – one featuring Killswitch Engageand another featuring Sacred Reich. In addition to these two packed live shows/parties, the label reissued its first release, the compilation album Metal Massacre, plus specially branded 40th Anniversary small batch vodka and rum, and a West Coast style IPA beer. Brian Slagelalso saw the release of his second book, Swing of the Blade: More Stories from Metal Blade Records that was released on May 9th and was met with rave reviews from fans and press alike. One fan on Good Reads called the book “a sentimental journey through Brian’s metal origin-story recollections from his deep and wide perspective as founder of Metal Blade that I enjoyed very much” while MetalTalk.net wrote that “Swing Of The Blade is an endearing, honest, and enjoyable journey into the deeper world of Brian Slagel, the main man behind the legendary Metal Blade Records…this is very much Brian in his own words, recounting tales from the early days of Metal Blade through to a brief post-pandemic epilogue, where he expresses his regret that the book hasn’t coincided with the 40th anniversary of the label.” To round out the celebration, Brian Slagel opened up the label’s collection of heavy metal memorabilia to fans in Las Vegas, NV, marking the opening of the official Metal Blade Records Museum that is open every Saturday.

The celebrating rolled over into 2023 and in October AXS TV picked up and premiered the Denise Korycki documentary of Metal Massacre: The Story Behind the Legendary Album. Packed with all-star interviews, rare photos, the film tells the story of the groundbreaking 1982 Metal Massacre vinyl compilation-a sonic celebration of the burgeoning Los Angeles Metal scene, which helped launch the careers of iconic acts Metallica and Ratt, and ultimately led to the birth of the legendary independent record label Metal Blade Records. The film boasts priceless commentary and anecdotes from Metal Bladefounder Brian Slagel and his friend and collaborator John Kornarens, two metalheads with a dream who made Metal Massacre a reality; as well as Metallica members Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield; Ratt frontman Stephen Pearcy; and Black N’ Blue singer Jamie St. James, among many others.

The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams Full-Length Out Now On Metal Blade Records

The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams, the latest full-length from UK death metal trio INGESTED, is out today on Metal Blade Records!

Since their fifth album, 2020’s Where Only God May TreadINGESTED has been on a creative tear that has produced almost a full record every year, each displaying the kind of musical growth that only comes from constantly practicing, playing, and writing. The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams is not only as innovative and brutal as their last disc — the bleak, firestorm Ashes Lie Still — it showcases a band willing to expand its creativity without sacrificing the ferocity that made it one of the most impressively destructive, technical death metal bands on the scene. The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams is proof that once INGESTED sniffs out a trail of musical blood, they ravenously follow it until they’ve uncovered a festering feast.

Whether pummeling listeners with double-bass rolls, blast-beats, and grinding rhythm; breaking it all down with jagged, staggered riffs, and piercing harmonics; or flooding the mix with rapid-fire bursts of minor key melodies, INGESTED has injected all of their experience, skill, and artistry into ten trenchant new tracks.

In celebration of the release, today the band unleashes a video for “Endless Machine.”

Comments vocalist Jason Evans, “‘Endless Machine’ is about the day to day grind you get stuck in, when you haven’t found the courage to get up and take charge of your own situation. Take a deep breath, embrace the risk, and don’t get stuck in an endless machine with no way out. So, sink your teeth into the live mayhem of this new video and expect the same carnage on our upcoming tour with Fallujah, Vulvodynia and Melancolia.”

Watch INGESTED‘s video for “Endless Machine” at THIS LOCATION.

The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams was produced by the band with the guidance of recording engineer Nico Beninato. The record includes a guest appearance by Chimaira‘s Mark Hunter who provides vocals for the track “In Nothingness” and Sylosis singer Josh Middleton who contributes to “Expect To Fail,” as well as the striking cover art of David Seidman.

Dååth: Progressive Death Metal Collective Unleashes “Ascension” Video / Single

DÅÅTH:

Sean Z – vocals
Krimh – drums
Jesse Zuretti – orchestration, synth, guitar
Rafael Trujillo – lead guitar
Davis Marvuglio – bass

The Deceivers Full-Length Nears Release On Metal Blade Records

Watch/stream DÅÅTH’s “Ascension” HERE

Returning progressive death metal collective DÅÅTH are excited to unleash their latest single, “Ascension,” and an accompanying video. “Ascension” also features a guest guitar solo from Dean Lamb (Archspire). The track comes off their forthcoming full-length (and first new studio output in fourteen years), The Deceivers, set for release on May 3rd via Metal Blade Records.

The band’s return has been surrounded by excitement from enthusiastic fans, though founder/guitarist Eyal Levi admits that the hiatus wasn’t by choice. “I kept wanting to get back together. It was tough psychologically.” But Levi kept himself busy working in studios for other bands (Chelsea GrinThe Contortionist), honing his production and engineering skills. He later co-founded Unstoppable Recording Machine, a school that teaches metal music production, and its sister company, Riffhard, that specializes in metal guitar instruction. Both became Levi’s primary focus for a number of years, but folks never stopped asking him asking the status of DÅÅTH. Interest never waned.

When the pandemic lockdowns and an injury stunted Levi’s ability to work out, he needed an outlet for his energy and decided to pick up his guitar again. After shaking off years of rust, his love for the instrument reawakened. “Once my playing was starting to sound like me, I started writing and the riffs started to sound like DÅÅTH,” Levi says. “At that point, I spoke to [vocalist] Sean [Zatorsky], and he told me that he’d been waiting for this phone call for eleven years.

The Deceivers is at once a devastating reminder and giant leap forward that showcases the technical wizardry and brutal intensity that the Atlanta, Georgia-bred band is capable of. Levi has overseen an overhaul of the lineup. Together with force-of-nature vocalist Zatorsky, who has fronted the band since 2007, they are now joined by Kerim “Krimh” Lechner (Septicflesh, ex-Decapitated) on drums, Jesse Zuretti (The Binary Code) on orchestration and guitar, Rafael Trujillo (ex-Obscura) on lead guitar, and David Marvuglio (ex-Ice Nine Kills) on bass.

The nine tracks comprising The Deceiversare monstrously heavy but beautifully orchestrated, blessed with melodies that will haunt anybody fortunate enough to hear them. The album title is the continuation of a theme that began with 2007’s The Hinderersand continued with 2009’s The Concealers. “Those titles are about the outside world,” Levi says. “They’re not about us. While they touch on self-destruction and self-deception, we all occasionally fall victim to, this album is a scathing critique and exploration of certain societal elements. The deceivers and obstructors in life. Those who impede your progress through subterfuge and manipulation.”

The latest single, “Ascension,” explores mindless conformity and how easily one can fall victim to coercion. From the first hit of the drum opening, the song is a powerhouse that delivers a journey through larger-than-life orchestrations fused with flattening metal devastation. “This song is a beast. Riffs for days, brutality and groove, there are soaring solos all over the place,” says Levi, “plus, it’s peppered with parallel universe Danny Elfman moments.”

Adds Zuretti. “Rarely is it true to be taken on a ride with music; let ‘Ascension’ prove its validity by guiding you through warping passages, orchestral fidelity, uncommonly creative musicianship, and uncontested power. ‘Ascension’ is the year’s mindfuck, carrying the listener from different realms of musical identity, showcasing talent to points that’ll make you think it’s otherworldly. Of all of the tracks you’ll hear in 2024, this will be one you’ll be revisiting the most whilst scratching your head in disbelief.”

Watch DÅÅTH’s previously released video for “Hex Unending” at THIS LOCATION.

The Deceivers was produced by Levi, with Andrew Wade handling vocal production, John Douglass engineering, Jens Bogren mixing, and Tony Lindgren mastering. Guest guitar solos are contributed across numerous tracks by Dan Sugarman (Ice Nine Kills), Jeff Loomis (NevermoreArch Enemy), Mark Holcomb (Periphery), Dean Lamb (Archspire), Per Nilsson, (Scar SymmetryMeshuggah), and Spiro Dussias (Platonist), with renowned video game composer Mick Gordon (Doom Eternal) contributing sound design and synth to “Purified By Vengeance.”

The Deceivers will be released on CD and digital formats as well as vinyl in the following color variants:

Mineral (US – Ltd. 300)
Transparent Blood Red Base w/ Opaque Black Smoke + Heavy White Splatter (US – Ltd. 200/EU – Ltd. 500)

DÅÅTH began their journey in 1999 and stayed busy for just over a decade before its 2011 hiatus. In that time, the band released four studio albums – Futility in 2004, The Hinderers in 2007, The Concealers in 2009, and their self-titled LP in 2010. Tours with Cattle DecapitationDark FuneralCynicNileSlayerDragonforceGoatwhoreChimairaDying Fetus, and Devildriver followed. DÅÅTH also landed a coveted spot on Ozzfest playing before tens of thousands of fans in outdoor amphitheaters across the US, in addition to the infamous and long-running metal tour Summer Slaughter.

After twelve years on hiatus, DÅÅTH found their ideal new home at Metal Blade, signing to the label and wasting no time creating new music, cover songs (Death‘s “The Philosopher” and Morbid Angel‘s “Where the Slime Live“) and reissuing previous albums. The first new song from the revitalized DÅÅTH, “No Rest No End” (released ahead of the album in February 2023), features guest solos by Spiro Dussias and now-DÅÅTHmember Trujillo, who impressed Levi so much while guesting on the track that he was invited to join the band.

Allegaeon Releases New Video For The Single”Iridescent”

Colorado melodic tech outfit ALLEGAEON, unleash their new stand alone single, “Iridescent” accompanied by an absolutely unhinged music video. The band recently finished working on their seventh full-length album with longtime producer Dave Otero (Flatline Audio).

The scathing new tune follows their “Inhumation” single, released last Fall, and serves as a precursor to the band’s forthcoming full-length. Where “Inhumation” had more of a Damnum vibe, “Iridescent” is more reminiscent of Elements Of The Infinite. Musically, both songs were written with an overwhelming sense of anger; “Inhumation” in soundscape form and “Iridescent” in a pure, frantic guitar-driven form.

Comments returning vocalist Ezra Haynes, “Originally recorded during the same session as our last single, ‘Inhumation,’ we wanted to release ‘Iridescent’ to give our fans a little love before we full send our next album cycle. This stand-alone single was cut from the very cloth of ALLEGAEON’s Elements Of The Infinite era. Perfect timing too, as we’re about to head out on the North American leg of the Cancer Culture Tour with Decapitated, Speticflesh, and Kataklysm this April. It will be very cool to see how the newer material is received. Here we are, just about ten years from when we released the song ‘1.618.’ We still get asked to this very day about our wheel of subgenres, or, ‘Where’s the crab?’ I’m really looking forward to the next ten-plus years of glizzies.”

Adds guitarist Greg Burgess, “The music for ‘Iridescent’ spawned from my excitement of working with Ezra again. We had been throwing ideas back and forth, rekindling our writing chemistry, and this song just seemed to write itself. The accompanying video’s subject matter evolved much like our video for ‘1.618.’ Five guys sat around talking about stupid things until we started laughing. Then the question was posed… ‘What if?’ Anyway, I hope people like hotdogs and stupid videos.”

A lot has happened with ALLEGAEON since the 2022 release of Damnum, a record called a “triumph” of maximalist modern metal and “technically dazzling yet always in thrall to the uplifting power of melody.” First, the Colorado-based band — who formed in 2008 — welcomed back original singer Ezra Haynes as permanent vocalist in November of 2022. Then the quintet wrote and recorded two blistering brand-new songs — “Iridescent” and “Inhumation” — with longtime producer Dave Otero.

Both of the songs are really aggressive, far more than anything I’ve done with the boys,” says Haynes. “Since my departure in 2015, ALLEGAEON had grown so much musically as well as introduced a more ‘personal’ style of lyrics to the fold. This was a very cool change to me.”

Creative freedom is key in both ALLEGAEON‘s new songs and revitalized lineup. “During my previous career in music, I was always mildly satisfied due to death metal just being aggressive in nature,” Haynes reflects. “Having the ability to really spread my wings in the ‘introspective’ sense really garnered ALLEGAEON my full buy-in.”

Producer Otero has worked with the band for fifteen years, and guitarist Greg Burgess explains that, “Dave always provides a comfortable working environment, amazing ideas, and a career-spanning understanding of what has made Allegaeon, ALLEGAEON.”

Among the lineup’s six albums are features from Bjorn Strid of Soilwork (vocals) and Benjamin Ellis of Scar SymmetryALLEGAEON has seen their albums in the Top 10 of Billboard’s US Hard Rock, US Rock, US Indie and US Sales charts, the tracks “1.618” from Elements Of The Infinite; “Of Beasts And Worms” off Damnum, and “Parthenogenesis” from Apoptosis earning millions of collective streams from fans the world over.

If Damnum is what happens when “absurdly gifted musicians reach a state of unwavering confidence” as one journalist raved, the band’s next chapter, back with Haynes, and with an unbounded, refreshed creativity, will be unstoppable.

German Heavy Metal Outfit Vulture Unleashes “Realm of the Impaler” Video / Single

Sentinels Full-Length Nears Release On Metal Blade Records

Watch VULTURE’s “Realm Of The Impaler” video HERE

German heavy metallers VULTURE will unleash their fourth album, Sentinels, upon the masses on April 12th via Metal Blade Records. In anticipation of the release, today the band drops the fiery new single, “Realm Of The Impaler.”

If there is one band that combines a classic approach with fresh ideas and an expansive joy of playing to honor their ancestors from the likes of early ExodusMetallica, or Slayer, then it is VULTURE

Blabbermouth once hailed the band for breathing, “fresh life into the peerless sounds of the ’80s metal underground,” adding that, “while there are countless bands taking a similar approach, very few of them have either the songwriting chops or the inarguable conviction that this band keep delivering in massive, choking quantities.” Defenders Of The Faith Metalconcurred, “Their musical chops are such a force to be reckoned with; if they wanted to, they could form a traditional/prog metal band on the side, but they won’t. They’ll continue to subtly incorporate elements of such without losing their way.”

On SentinelsVULTURE proves once again that tradition and further development are not mutually exclusive, but on the contrary can lead to something extraordinary that leaves no headbanger untouched.

In direct comparison to the last album, Dealin’ Death, we’ve picked up the pace again noticeably,” says guitarist Stefan Castevet. “We’re bolder and a bit wilder again. It was important to us to be catchy and to include choruses that stick. Of course, we’ve basically retained our style, but we’ve defined the framework of the songs more clearly.”

VULTURE again recorded with Marco Brinkmann in his Hellforge Studio where there were also some innovations. “We had a clearly structured daily routine, a normal working day with set goals in which we could focus purely on recording the songs. Our previous recordings were a bit less organized which resulted in working overtime for everyone involved at the end. This is one of the reasons why Sentinels is the best sounding VULTURE record to date!

Comments Castevet on the band’s latest single, “‘Realm Of The Impaler’ shows our musical roots in classic heavy metal. Lots of twin guitars and melodies paired with driving drums and a dark atmosphere. The song proves that we are much more than a typical ‘hit it’ thrash band. Lyrically, the song deals with the infamous figure Vlad Tepes: His name a curse, his tongue a whip!

Chaos Horrific slaughtered Billboard charts upon its first week of release, earning the #7 position on the Billboard Album Sales chart, #2 on the Hard Music Albums chart, #3 on the Rock Albums chart, #5 on the Independent Label Albums chart, and more!

Hamferð: “Men Guðs hond er sterk” Full-Length from Faroese Death/Doom Collective Out Today on Metal Blade Records

Men Guðs Hond Er Sterk, the new full-length from Faroe Islands-based death/doom collective HAMFERÐ, is out today on Metal Blade Records!

When this magisterial sextet’s third album Támsins likam emerged in 2018, the highly acclaimed and powerfully emotive opus thrust the mourning-suited band onto the world stage. Louder Sound championed, “a stunning triumph,” Heavy Music HQconcurred lauding a, “tour de force for the band,” while Bandcamp Daily observed accurately, “HAMFERÐ presents metal’s obligatory preoccupation with dying in a light we rarely see it, finding melodrama, romance, and – yes – beauty in mortality.”

Six years on, the accumulation of plentiful live experience and interpersonal chemistry has had a profound impact on HAMFERБs extraordinary fourth LP, Men Guðs Hond Er Sterk, feeding into the artisanal sonic vision of guitarist and producer, Theodor Kapnas. Avoiding all the quick-fix trickery of modern recording technology, the band recorded the songs together live in the studio, without a click-track. The result is a resoundingly human album that heaves, swoops, and shifts in elemental style – from passages of glacial post-metallic beauty through sorrowful folky goth cadences, via icy blackened blastbeats to shuddering vistas of extreme doom mastery – with a crackling tight-but-loose interplay recalling the giants of yesteryear.

The narrative concept behind Men Guðs Hond Er Sterk is inspired by the 1915 whaling disaster off the Faroe Island village of Sandvik (home of HAMFERРkeyboardist Esmar Joensen), when fourteen men died driving whales ashore in the stormy bay. The village population witnessed the tragedy from the seaside. The sad tale has enabled HAMFERРto powerfully bring to life the meaning behind their Faroese name, zeroing in on the traumatic emotional force behind this supernatural phenomenon.

In celebration of today’s release, the band has unveiled a video for “Marrusorg.” “‘Marrusorg’ describes a parent’s attempt to create an imaginary world to avoid facing the death of their child. The verses are a dreamlike nursery rhyme where the child is the hero in an underwater kingdom. The choruses represent the unbearable grief that floods over the parent when this fantasy melts away.”

The true depth of this work may not be immediately apparent – but knowing all its facets, you can hardly help but let yourself be absorbed and drawn in by it.” — Metal Hammer Germany

…heavy riffs meet deep growls and pleading clear vocals as well as melodic sprinkles and a pleasant mixture of anger and melancholy… the album… invites you to let out your frustration about the misery of this world over a cold drink. And that’s exactly what music like this is for…” — Slam Magazine

HAMFERÐ’s latest offering is a powerful, emotionally charged exploration of tragedy, memory, and the indomitable human spirit. It is an album that stands as a bold statement from a band that continues to push the boundaries of their genre, crafting music that is as deeply felt as it is beautifully rendered.” – Lots Of Musik

Very few records that exist in this genre are a strong as Hamferð’s music, and Men Guðs Hond er Sterk simply reinforces Hamferð’s mastery of the style.” — Wonderbox Metal

The band excels at transmitting vibes of desolation and hopelessness with their music, and with Men Guðs Hond Er Sterk they take things to a whole new level.” — Infernal Masquerade

…a marriage of music and meaning… I haven’t “felt” another album as deeply this year.” — Metal Temple

[HAMFERÐ] continues to strike a fine line between entrancing melodies that have a bleaker, melancholic tone alongside more crushing riffs, but this time the formula has been shaken up a bit more and some of these songs are their most destructive to date.” — Metal Trenches

ARMORED SAINT‘s most recent studio album, Punching The Sky, was released in 2020. The critically lauded full-length hit worldwide record charts including #4 on Billboard’s Current Hard Music Albums chart, #6 on the Top New Artists chart, #16 on the Top Independent Albums chart, and #17 on the Current Rock Albums chart upon its first week of release.

A diverse, attitude-drenched collection, the record offers everything the band’s faithful have come to expect from them while pushing their signature sound forward. Exploding to life with the crunchy, rousing “Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants” and not letting up until the closing ruthless riff of “Never You Fret,” the record is possessed of an urgency and vigor which very much places it in the right now, but could only be the work of bassist Joey Vera, guitarists Phil Sandoval and Jeff Duncan, drummer Gonzo Sandoval, and vocalist John Bush. The record also features a few guest musicians further expanding its sonic palette, the whole thing kicking off with the sound of Uilleann Pipes, Vera finding player Patrick D’Arcy in Los Angeles and recruiting him to the cause. Guns ‘N’ Roses keyboardist Dizzy Reed also contributes, Vera giving both him and D’Arcy some general directions and letting them loose, both of them delivering strong performances. The band’s own Gonzo Sandoval plays an American Indian flute on “Never You Fret” – a first for ARMORED SAINTand their drummer. Also Jacob Ayala, the son of a childhood friend who is a drum major in high school, added some marching snare on one of the tracks, which really stands out.

Hvølja,” the chest-caving new single from Faroe Islands-based death/doom practitioners HAMFERРis now streaming alongside an accompanying video. The punishing new hymn appears on the band’s Men Guðs Hond Er Sterk full-length, set for release on March 22nd through Metal Blade Records.

When this magisterial sextet’s third album Támsins likam emerged in 2018 – ten years after they first entered a rehearsal space – the highly acclaimed and powerfully emotive opus thrust the mourning-suited band onto the world stage. Louder Soundcrowned the record, “a stunning triumph,” Heavy Music HQ concurred lauding a, “tour de force for the band,” while Nine Circlesobserved, “HAMFERÐ taps into a rich cultural vein to draw influence for their lyrical and musical themes, yet the filtering of this through the lens of death/doom makes for a unique approach to folk-themed metal, and one that is hugely successful in its application.”

Six years on, the accumulation of plentiful live experience and interpersonal chemistry has had a profound impact on HAMFERБs extraordinary fourth LP, Men Guðs Hond Er Sterk, feeding into the artisanal sonic vision of guitarist and producer, Theodor Kapnas

Men Guðs hond er sterk Track Listing:
01. Ábær
02. Rikin
03. Marrusorg
04. Glæman
05. Í hamferð
06. Fendreygar
07. Hvølja
08. Men Guðs hond er sterk

Concertedly eschewing all the quick-fix trickery of modern recording technology, the band recorded the songs together live in the studio, without a click-track.

In addition to the old-school recording set-up, guitarist and producer Theodor Kapnas’ vision for the sound is best exemplified by penultimate song and latest single, “Hvølja” (Whaleskin), a sluggish sludge crawl with a beautifully disgusting tone. “I had a big fascination with making stuff rougher, dirtier and uglier,” affirms Kapnas. “Musically it’s all about tension; suspended chords and tense harmonies, always having that feeling of uncertainty. That song is maybe my favorite track on the record, just because it’s so uncompromising. Everything goes to 11.

‘Hvølja’ is also the darkest and ugliest song we have written to date,” he continues. “It is a sonic and lyrical representation of the world being violently ripped apart by monstrous currents and consumed by a black sky above.”

“When you see someone in hamferð, you see their apparition,” Kapnas explains. “Mostly it’s wives with husbands at sea, who’ve seen them dripping wet in the doorframe in the middle of the night. Typically, in folklore it’s a warning that something bad will happen, and there are several documented episodes of this happening in Sandvik in 1915. So it’s kind of full circle for us.

Keygen Church: Futuristic Orchestral/Baroque Metal Project Issues Single for “Nel Nome Del Codice” Title Track

KEYGEN CHURCH IS:
Vittorio D’Amore – everything

Stream/watch KEYGEN CHURCH’s “Nel Nome Del Codice” HERE

As KEYGEN CHURCH prepares to release its stunning Nel Nome Del Codice full-length on March 22nd via Metal Blade Records, the second single from the record – its essential title track – has been issued in both audio and visual formats.

KEYGEN CHURCH is the brainchild of technologist/songwriter Victor Love (Vittorio D’Amore). Love, also of 8-bit phenoms Master Boot Record (MBR), is a one-person outfit, writing, and recording via undisclosed real-time stream events, where the dedicated (and lucky) bear witness to KEYGEN CHURCH‘s spontaneous creative process. Like previous alt code/text art-titled albums ░ ▒ ▓ █(2022) and ░█░█░░█░█░█░ (2022), Nel Nome Del Codice is a modern-primitive love letter to doom/gothic/black metal with foundations in Baroque-era Classical and Romantic-era music. This time, however, Love has refined his sonic tool kit – “the complete set of sounds,” he says – the aftereffect of which is computerized big-hall libations like “La Chiave Del Mio Amor,” “Nel Nome Del Codice,” and “Lode Al Disco Sacro.”

Sputnikmusic once noted, “they successfully managed to ‘dehumanize’ classical music. Just imagine: Bach found a time machine and traveled to the present time, releasing an album with church organs while in the background an old computer was booting from floppy,” while MetalSucks likened KEYGEN CHURCH‘s sound to “the sinister score for an epic Castlevania movie.” 100% Synthesized. 100% Dehumanized. Nel Nome Del Codice is KEYGEN CHURCH disincarnate.

In advance of the record’s release, KEYGEN CHURCH today unveils the title track to Nel Nome Del Codice, stating, “The church of Keygen is open and the choirs are leading accompanied by piano arpeggios and pipe organs until the calm is broken by waves of synth metal doom. In the name of the sacred code.

Watch a visualizer for KEYGEN CHURCH‘s “Nel Nome Del Codice” HERE.

Stream KEYGEN CHURCH‘s previously released single, “La Chiave Del Mio Amor,” at THIS LOCATION.

KEYGEN CHURCH‘s Nel Nome Del Codicewill be released on CD and digital formats as well as gatefold LP in the following color variants:

Ruby Red (US)
Black w/ White Edging (US)
Red (EU)
180g Black (EU)
Transp. Red/Black Dust (EU)

Find pre-orders at: metalblade.com/keygenchurch

Watch for further updates on KEYGEN CHURCH‘s activities surrounding Nel Nome Del Codice to post in the coming weeks.

Love got his start in music through technology. He was a tech at his father’s computer business, where hands-on experience with hardware and software cultivated a jump to sysadmin at university. From there, the Italian fell into digital marketing and trendsetting. When the KEYGEN CHURCH architect was exposed to pirated software, the intro – called “cracktros” – music was pivotal to the “key generator” culture. The scene (aka “demoscene“) that evolved out of that caught his metal-attuned ears and gadget-oriented mind. Master Boot Record and KEYGEN CHURCH are the products and expressions of a bygone bootlegging era thrust into the present through different genre lenses. Suppose the former is inspired by death metal. In that case, the latter is symphonic black metal, and Nel Nome Del Codice is not unlike Arcturus‘ La Masquerade Infernale or Elend‘s The Umbersun if envisioned by Japanese 8-bit composer Koichi Sugiyama (Dragon Quest).

Love’s work in KEYGEN CHURCH is homage and innovation. He’s a fan of ciphers – astute fans will have to figure out where they’re used on Nel Nome Del Codice. The logo is ASCII art, a “graphic language” created by bulletin board system (BBS) users in the early days of the Internet. While the cover may appear minimalist initially, the 1-bit pixel art by Germany-based illustrator Valenberg (PerturbatorVirtuaVerse) signals KEYGEN CHURCH‘s ascent to their final form. If the metamorphosis is complete, Love’s journey to Nel Nome Del Codice has been inspiring. The refined craftwork of “Lode Al Disco Sacro,” “Sulla Via Della Gloria,” the nearly eight-minute closer, “Sempre Nel Mio Pensiero,” beholds darksome liturgical majesty, the likes of which we’re hearing/experiencing for the first time at our respective pews.

Ingested: UK Death Metallers Release Brutalizing New Single, “Pantheon”

The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams Full-Length To See Release This April On Metal Blade Records

UK death metallers INGESTED drops their latest single, “Pantheon,” upon the masses today. The brutalizing new hymn comes by way of the band’s latest full-length, The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams, set for release on April 5th via Metal Blade Records!

Since their fifth album, 2020’s Where Only God May TreadINGESTED has been on a creative tear that has produced almost a full record every year, each displaying the kind of musical growth that only comes from constantly practicing, playing, and writing. The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams, is not only as innovative and brutal as their last disc — the bleak, firestorm Ashes Lie Still — it showcases a band willing to expand its creativity without sacrificing the ferocity that made it one of the most impressively destructive, technical death metal bands on the scene.

New single, “Pantheon,” in particular, is a scorching conglomeration of alternating tempos, abrupt rhythm shifts and devastating guitar grind between staccato midsections.

While INGESTED were in a solid headspace creatively while working on …Tide…, they were tangibly weighed down by some personal traumas and frustrations they’ve faced in recent years. Such issues make their songs more relatable, and ultimately inspired the album title, The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams. “It’s essentially a metaphor for trying to make it through life and forging a career for yourself, including all the hurdles that come your way,” notes vocalist Jason Evans.

Some of the conflicts for INGESTEDwere rooted in depression and insecurity, a condition that fueled the themes behind “Pantheon.” Right at a time when the band was playing huge shows to devoted crowds and hanging with bands they’ve admired for years (including Dying Fetus and Suffocation), and newer groups shaking the scene, (such as Lorna Shore and Sylosis), Evans was struggling with an identity crisis.

Elaborates Evans, “I wrote ‘Pantheon’ when I was suffering from a heavy bout of imposter syndrome. We’ve done all these big tours with all these huge bands, bands we grew up idolizing, and now we’re rubbing shoulders with giants so to speak. It’s about questioning if you belong, if you’re good enough, am I able to keep up with my peers? Can I fill the shoes of my idols once they are gone? Do I deserve it?

Stream INGESTED’s “Pantheon” at THIS LOCATION.

Watch INGESTED‘s previously released video for “Paragon Of Purity” HERE.

The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams was produced by the band with the guidance of recording engineer Nico Beninato. The records includes a guest appearance by Chimaira‘s Mark Hunter who provides vocals for the track “In Nothingness” and Sylosis singer Josh Middleton who contributes to “Expect To Fail,” as well as the striking cover art of David Seidman.

INGESTED‘s The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams will be released on CD, digitally, and LP in the following color variants:

Týr: Faroe Islands-Based Viking Metal Collective to Release “Battle Ballads” Full-Length on April 12th via Metal Blade Records

TÝR:
Heri Joensen – vocal, guitar
Hans Hammer – guitar
Gunnar Helmer “Gunz” Thomsen – bass
Tadeusz “Tad” Rieckmann – drums

New Video, “Axes,” Now Playing + Pre-orders Available

Faroe Islands-based acclaimed Viking metal collective TÝR returns with their ninth full-length studio album, Battle Ballads, set for release on April 12th via Metal Blade Records!

When TÝR teamed up with the Symphony Orchestra of the Faroe Islands on February 8th, 2020, to record the double-disc/DVD release A Night At The Nordic House, founding frontman Heri Joensen was thrilled to bring together two of the music forms he loves most – folk and classical – into his band’s unorthodox form of music. But at the time, he couldn’t have imagined what a profound impact the collaboration would have on his musical vision, and how much it would influence and inform the album he would write a few years later.

There’s a reason classical music is called classical,” Joensen says. “It’s the classical way of doing it. And it creates these epic sounds that fit in perfectly with the kind of metal we do in TÝR. So, there’s full orchestration on all of the new songs.”

The follow-up to the band’s 2019’s powerful progressive folk metal album Hel, the new Battle Ballads is aptly named – a crushing, soaring, batch of classical embellished songs that conjure images of galloping steeds, clashing swords, and hard-fought victories. And, as if it needs to be stated, the title Battle Ballads has nothing in common with the lighter-raising songs so prevalent in the 1980s.

There are definitely two versions of a ballad,” clarifies Joensen. “A lot of people think of hair metal, when they think of ballads. We are looking at ballads here in the Medieval sense. Apart from a couple of softer parts on the album, this is very much straight heavy metal with some folk and classical influences. I’m not sure what exactly one would call it – power metal, Viking metal, folk metal. It still fits in very much with what we do, only it feels bigger and more like these big soundscapes.”

As much as TÝR would have liked to write, rehearse, and record with a symphony, schedule conflicts made it impossible to have the band and classical musicians to be in the same place at the same time. So the band did the next best thing. With Joensen at the helm, they wrote ten thunderous songs for Battle Ballads, then the bandleader sent the compositions to a Danish colleague Lars Winther living in England, who added the orchestral samples, paying close attention to the tone and tempo of the songs so the violins, violas, cellos, woodwinds, and horns fit complimented the traditional rock instruments. When the samples were all in place the album sounded impressive, but the tones weren’t perfectly blended. So, TÝR sent the album to veteran producer Jacob Hansen (VolbeatThe Black Dahlia MurderAmaranthe) in Denmark to put together the final mix.

There’s no escaping the masterful blend of melody and savagery on Battle Ballads. The opening track “Hammered” funnels infectious riffs and searing licks through a variety of rhythm and tempo changes, “Unwandered Ways” is a triumphant, upbeat blend of vocal harmonies, joyous folk hooks, and dense, driving guitars, and features a solo break that demonstrate guitarist Hans Hammer’s acrobatic ability to shred. And “Battle Ballad” is a trample to the abyss, fueled by hammering beats, fleet-fingered guitars, orchestral swell and chugging guitar breaks.

In advance of the release of Battle Ballads, today TÝR unveils the record’s first single, “Axes,” and its accompanying video.

Joensen comments, “‘Axes’ starts with a battle horn followed by a fast melodic and symphonic guitar riff introducing the progression and main theme of the song. Game Of Thrones-ish lyrics of gory and glorified hand-to-hand battle of Viking times, told from a first-person perspective. The verse is slow and heavy with a gritty, yet theatrical and melodic voice. The chorus is fast with a singalong choir, alternating vocally between intricate and brutally simple phrasings. It’s a short face-melting metal song based on a single melodic idea.”
