I played in my first two bands with Jimmy, went to high school with Gary, and have known Mike since I was 15 years old. Get your asses to the shows- this tour will be one for the books!!!

Sonically unrelenting, EXHORDER’snewly released record, Defectum Omnium, revisits the band’s early influences of punk, hardcore and thrash, with 12 merciless tracks that sound as vital as when they first carved their groove in metal in 1985. Featuring crushing songs like ‘Year of the Goat‘ and ‘Forever and Beyond Despair‘ and ominous cover artwork by Travis Smith (Katatonia, Opeth), Defectum Ominum finds EXHORDER at the top of their game with one of the year’s most vicious records.

Thomas has said of the new record:

It’s been quite a journey for Exhorder since the 2019 release of Mourn the Southern Skies. Lineup changes as well as the 2020-2021 pandemic and lockdown presented hurdles that weren’t easy to overcome. But we persevered, kept our heads down and went to work with intense focus and real goals. One of those goals was to bring our fourth full length album to our fan base. Defectum Omnium is a collaborative effort in songwriting, much as it was in the early days of Exhorder. We produced it ourselves, as we felt no need or desire to bring in anyone from the outside based upon our shared vision. It was also important to us not only to continue the natural progression this band has been in since the early 90’s, but to put a foot back into our roots. The influence punk and hardcore had on this band from getting our start in the New Orleans punk rock scene has a strong presence. We’ve also made sure to keep plenty of our thrash roots as well in our songwriting process. But we have also managed to keep our doom roots alive, which first surfaced on the song (Cadence of) the Dirge back in 1992. In fact, on one new song we have guest appearances by Rick Wartell and Bruce Franklin from Trouble, and they absolutely killed it!

From the time that we began pre-production until the actual release date, we can promise you that every bit of Defectum Omnium was crafted with great care, and we are really excited about it! Our goal was to make an album that WE loved and gives the experience of a journey.”

About EXHORDER:

Formed in 1986, EXHORDER’s journey has proven exciting, yet tumultuous. After a twenty-seven-year absence following their final Roadrunner Records release in 1992, EXHORDER re-entered the game with an album considered by many to be a contender for the “Best Comeback Album” category. The band released Mourn the Southern Skies in October of 2019 through Nuclear Blast Records. Fraught with euphoric peaks and crippling valleys throughout its existence, lineup changes, and the 2020-2021 pandemic, EXHORDER has since clawed back through the muck to prepare yet another album to add to the discography. In the spring of 2024, EXHORDER presents yet again via Nuclear Blast their fourth full-length recording, Defectum Omnium,  the Latin phrase for “The Failure of All”. Singer Kyle Thomas wryly explains that the album title is representative of the current state of affairs that the world is in. “The world is a dumpster fire, and we are all complicit.”, he explains. “People have been talking about, ‘…viruses killing us off, blah-blah, blah…’, when in actuality WE are the virus to the Earth. Mother Nature is simply trying to shake off the fleas, and her ‘viruses’ are the antibodies combating US. Earth will survive, and we will join the dinosaurs, wooly mammoths, and saber-toothed tigers soon enough in her history.”

Produced by EXHORDER and mixed by Jens Bogren, Defectum Omnium puts a foot back into the roots of the band’s inception. The scales have tipped favorably towards the presence of punk and thrash more so than on Mourn the Southern Skies. Tracks like ‘Wrath of Prophecies’, ‘Forever and Beyond Despair’, and ‘Sedition’ are what EXHORDER comes by most honestly when referring to their beginnings. There is also a strong presence of doom influence, as always. ‘The Tale of Unsound Minds’ and the haunting ‘Defectum Omnium/Stolen Hope’ will raise utter despair from the depths of your soul. The thick New Orleans grooves EXHORDER has been known for beating out since day one are still undeniable, and they stand out in tracks like ‘Year of the Goat’, ‘Under the Gaslight’, and ‘Three Stages of Truth/Lacing the Well’.

One trait about Defectum Omnium that deserves to be pointed out is that it is more of a journey and experience than just a regurgitated selection of songs on autopilot. With peaks and valleys much like a roller coaster ride, one listener described the album as having “…a little something for everyone.”. As EXHORDER has always been hard to classify by one genre, the album is loaded with heaviness, aggression, speed, and venom. It also has an equal presence of mystery, melody, and harmony, and vacillates between darkness and light. Themes that dart back and forth between surviving oppression, despair, revolution, and brittle hope take you through the band’s madness by way of the musical path that they have forged. With touring plans underway in support of Defectum Omnium, EXHORDER finds itself poised to finally achieve the brass ring potential that has always seemed to be just out of their reach.

Decoding Metal Etiquette: Your Essential Guide To Navigating Metal Culture

Wacken Open Air Festival 2023

Written By Tristan Cardinelli

Here’s the insiders guide of etiquette for headbangers.

Disclaimer: This is purely for entertainment purposes only and not meant to be taken seriously.

“Is there a strict metalhead code of conduct? Well, it’s more like a loosely woven tapestry of communal customs that have evolved over decades. Think of it as the unwritten rules of engagement, where headbangers nod in unison to show their allegiance to the metal culture.

These guidelines aren’t enforced by any metal police (except maybe in the mosh pit, where things get serious). They’re just things that metalheads respect to keep the harmony alive and the music loud.

Take, for example, the dress code: black attire is your metal uniform, preferably adorned with a band shirt. It’s not a fashion statement; it’s a rite of passage. But here’s the kicker—never wear the shirt of the band you’re about to see. It’s like wearing your love letter on your sleeve after already buying the concert ticket. Never wear a shirt of a band you’ve never heard of and do not listen to.

Band loyalty is the law. Don’t flaunt a shirt from the headliner’s past life—like showing up to a Soen gig in an Opeth tee. It’s all about supporting their current incarnation.

Practicality reigns supreme too. Steel-toe boots aren’t just for show; they’re survival gear in the swirling sea of the mosh pit. And forget about restrictive clothing—unless you fancy doing the metal shuffle in skinny jeans.

Then there are the mosh pit rules: help a fallen comrade up, no punches thrown (unless it’s an accidental windmill), and form a protective shield around the wounded (metalhead knight duty). Most importantly no karate in the pit.

Personal hygiene is a thing people! A good rule of thumb is to refrain from eating gas inducing foods before a concert. (Save the beans and dairy for another occasion). And please dont forget to use deodorant. Its way too hot in the pit for gas masks.

And ladies, leave the Manolo’s at home—it’s hard to mosh with a broken heel or while your sinking into the ground.

Above all, know your metal. No faking it, or you’ll get called out faster than a power chord solo.

Alright metalheads! If you’re diving into the world of metal you better pay homage to the “godfathers” who forged this molten genre.

Know your subgenres. You better be able to dissect the metal subgenres like a mad scientist with a Marshall stack. If you think you’re a true metalhead you better know what each genre is and where each band belongs or else you will be banished to poser island.

But wait, there’s more! Enter the realm of classic metal, where names like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Death, Judas Priest, and the thunderous Pantera roar through the speakers. These are the warriors of distortion, the shredders of solos, and the architects of mosh pits worldwide.

Alright, listen up. Let’s talk about avoiding poser pitfalls like a bad guitar solo. Sure, places like Hot Topic might lure you in with their shiny, trend-hugging gear, but remember, not everything that glitters is metal.

If you stumble upon a band tee that screams your name louder than a Marshall stack, by all means, snag it. But don’t blow your entire paycheck on fleeting fashion fads. Metal is about staying true to the riff, not just what’s hot this season.

Being a metalhead is a state of mind, a commitment to the guttural growls and face-melting solos that define the genre. So, skip the surface-level trends and crank up the music. Because at the end of the day, being a metalhead is about the music, the passion, and headbanging like there’s no tomorrow.

So yes, there are rules, but they’re more like guidelines forged in the fires of community, countless gigs and festivals. Break them at your own peril or risk being labeled as ‘that person’ who just doesn’t get it.”

NILE Announces 2025 USA Tour + Reveals Second Single “To Strike with Secret Fang”

Death Metal Icons NILE Reveal Masterful Second Single,
“To Strike with Secret Fang” + Lyric Video | Watch HERE

2025 USA Co-Headline Tour With Six Feet Under Announced
Featuring Support From Psycroptic & Embryonic Autopsy
Tickets On Sale Friday, July 12 @ 10:00AM EDT

New NILE Album, The Underworld Awaits Us All, out August 23, 2024 via Napalm Records | Pre-Order HERE

American death metal icons NILE recently announced their highly-anticipated 10th album, The Underworld Awaits Us All, out August 23 via Napalm Records, and the first reviews are in! The album’s breakneck first single, “Chapter for Not Being Hung Upside Down on a Stake in the Underworld and Made to Eat Feces by the Four Apes”, arrived to much acclaim from long time fans, and was instantly dubbed by Consequenceas “kinetic, technically dense brutality”, while MetalSucks hailed it as “face disfiguring death metal from start to finish”.

The album’s second single and most succinct standout, “To Strike with Secret Fang”, pushes that unrelenting prowess to the next level. Out today via a new lyric video and streaming on all major platforms, the track blends low-end punishment with blackened death metal inspiration, rhythmic vocal mastery and brutal conviction. Listen below!

Alongside the single, NILE have also announced their upcoming 2025 USA co-headline tour with death metal greats Six Feet Under. The tour begins January 7, 2025 in Nashville, TN and will feature support from Psycroptic and Embryonic Autopsy. Tickets for this unmissable onslaught go on sale this Friday, July 12 at 10:00AM EDT! Pre-show meet and greets will also be available for both headliners. Visit https://nile-official.com/ for tickets and more information, and see below for all tour dates.

NILE’s Karl Sanders comments on the new track and tour announcement:
“‘To Strike with Secret Fang’ is a straight-to-the-point, uptempo blasting venomous assassin’s blade of a metal song. It’s the shortest track off the new record, The Underworld Awaits us All, which of course in Nile fashion has several long form complex metal compositions. But ‘Fang’ instantly goes right for the throat and will no doubt be a burner for live Nile shows.

“Speaking of, Nile is very pleased for the opportunity to once again share the stage with the guys in Six Feet Under and Psycroptic. We are also primed and ready to play some of the killer songs from the new Nile album for metal fans, as well as classic Nile tracks that have become live favorites over the years. We have no doubt that metal will take place!”

Boasting airtight technicality and unrelenting brutality, the new album pushes each member of NILE – founding mastermind/guitarist Karl Sanders, longtime drum master George Kollias, vocalist/guitarists Brian Kingsland and Zach Jeter, and bassist Dan Vadim Von – to their furthest extremes both in artistry and performance. Once again produced and recorded at Sanders’ own Serpent Headed Studios in Greenville, South Carolina, the band returned to Vile Nilotic Rites engineer Mark Lewis (Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Whitechapel) for mixing and mastering.

Facing the planet’s inevitable end with their diehard fans at their side, NILE waste absolutely no time with histrionics on The Underworld Awaits Us All, distilling their trademark Egyptology driven tempest down to its most streamlined essence. Charging into battle as its namesake depicts, “Stelae of Vultures” makes an immediate impact with dissonant guitar chords and supernatural drumming, teasing the auditory evisceration to come. Topped by impressive screams and gutturals, the track leads into “Chapter for Not Being Hung Upside Down on a Stake in the Underworld and Made to Eat Feces by the Four Apes”, citing the Egyptian Book of the Dead’s 181st chapter. The album’s most succinct track, “To Strike with Secret Fang”, blends low-end punishment with blackened death metal inspiration, before album standouts such as “Naqada II Enter the Golden Age” and “Overlords of the Black Earth” breathe new life with thrash and fusion experimentation, as well as real human choirs – adding a raw element to the NILEfold. Each track soars as a technical tour-de-force – featuring career-defining extreme drumming from Kollias, as well as razor-sharp soloing from all three active guitarists and palpable bass exploration. A perfect example of this equation is pinnacle burner “Under the Curse of the One God”, combining sinister atmospherics with breakneck pacing and whirlwind, vicious riff acrobatics.

Throughout the remainder of its 11 pummeling tracks and intricate interludes, NILE masters full-tilt speed and ferocious musicality. 30 years into their heavy reign, The Underworld Awaits Us All proves that NILE is marching onward and undoubtedly upward, bleeding metal for their fandom for as long as the sands of time will allow.

TURMION KÄTILÖT – RELEASE NEW SONG ‘SCHLACHTER’

Today Finnish industrial metallers TURMION KÄTILÖT release their brand new song ‘Schlachter‘ It´s the band’s first track sung in German and features Chris Harms of LORD OF THE LOST.

MC Raaka Pee comments: “Schlachter” deals, as its name suggests, with themes related to slaughter, which refer both to concrete slaughtering but also metaphorical meanings, such as mental or societal tearing and destruction. The idea for making this track began from wanting to challenge my younger self by making a remix of our first single, “Teurastaja.” As per usual, things got positively out of hand, and the track became our first single made in German. Chris edited the text to reflect the mood of today’s world. The beat of the hammer can take you anywhere!”

Category 7: Heavy Metal Supergroup Reveals “Mousetrap” Video And Single

Eponymous Debut Nears Release Via Metal Blade Records

Watch / stream CATEGORY 7’s “Mousetrap ” HERE

Mousetrap” is the latest single from CATEGORY 7, the heavy metal supergroup featuring the iconic lineup of John Bush (Armored SaintAnthrax), Mike Orlando (Adrenaline MobSonic UniverseNoturnall), Phil Demmel (Machine HeadKerry KingVio-Lence), Jack Gibson (Exodus), and Jason Bittner (Shadows FallOverkill). The track comes courtesy of the band’s self-titled debut full-length, set for release on July 26th through Metal Blade Records.

Named after the numerical designation for the most powerful windstorms, CATEGORY 7 came together from a batch of musicians who strived to play music they loved and weren’t hearing elsewhere and wanted to do so with bandmates they enjoyed being with. The result is sonically rewarding and lives up to the storied histories of its members. Meticulously structured songs skillfully balance thrash beats, NWOBHM-inspired rhythms, a punk metal attitude, and ferocious dual guitar work ultimately establishing an eclectic musical backdrop for vocalist John Bush’s instantly identifiable vocals.

The band has already earned perhaps the most honorable of accolades from Metallica‘s James Hetfield who added the band’s last single, “Exhausted” to the the playlist of Metallica‘s official podcast, The Metallica Report.

It’s all about big verses and big songs, and it has a lot of the elements we’ve explored in our other bands,” notes guitarist and main songwriter Mike Orlando.

I think the sound of this band really comes down to the odd connection that all of us have,” adds Bittner. “We’ve known each other for years as friends and peers. And we’ve all looked up to each other and know that one day we’d have to work together. It’s taken almost two decades for that to happen, but lo-and-behold, once it did there was no stopping us.”

In advance of the record’s official unveiling, today the band presents a video for third single, “Mousetrap.”

Comments Bush, “The music for this one felt like a mysterious caper to me. I drew inspiration from The Three Musketeers where a police tactic was used to apprehend someone who went to the residence of a person who was previously arrested. The whole thing feels like a black and white movie with scenes of entrapment, interrogation, and a corrupt warden. Even though it feels like something old, it also feels like it could be applied to what is happening in our modern justice system. Round and round we go.”

Watch CATEGORY 7‘s video for “Mousetrap” at THIS LOCATION.

Watch CATEGORY 7’s previously released video for “In Stitches” HERE and “Exhausted” HERE.

Category 7 was produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Orlando at Sonic Stomp Studios with art and layout by Carlos Fides at Artside Studio (AngraEvergreyKamelot). The record will be available on CD and digital formats as well as vinyl in the following color variants:

Storm Surge (US + EU)
Sable Smoke (EU – Ltd. 300)

Norwegian Black Metal Duo AVMAKT Arrive With New Single ‘Poison Reveal’

Norwegian Black Metal Duo AVMAKT Arrive With
New Single ‘Poison Reveal’

Debut Album, ‘Satanic Inversion Of….
Set For Release On Peaceville On August 30th

“UNDERGROUND METAL THE WAY IT SHOULD SOUND RETURNS TO KOLBOTN!” – FENRIZ (DARKTHRONE)

The sinister debut album of Pure Norwegian Black Metal, featuring members of Aura Noir, Obliteration & Condor.

From the depths of Norway looms a new rising beast of hate and misanthropy in the form of Avmakt. Today, their debut single ‘Poison Reveal’ is released alongside news of their upcoming debut album ‘Satanic Inversion Of.…’, set for release on August 30th on Peaceville.

Speaking about Avmakt’s music, vocalist Christoffer Bråthen said “Abstract and concrete as asphalt, processed through life as blood and ash, these riffs have seeped through the bottomless psychic wall. The themes are futureless and true to who we really are – clean and clear as disease.”

LISTEN TO ‘POISON REVEAL’ ON YOUTUBE
https://youtu.be/AYHDVdklE5Q

Featuring the duo of Kristian Valbo and Christoffer Bråthen – known for their work with such acts as Aura NoirObliteration, and Condor – their debut album, ‘The Satanic Inversion of….’, is a grim and revelatory offering. Primitive in a way that captures the early magic of Kolbotn’s metal kings, Darkthrone, as well as the stark chaos of early-era Bathory along with their very own distinguishable stamp on the genre. ‘The Satanic Inversion of….’ is a masterclass of real Black Metal feeling, wrapped up in a hypnotic frenzy of ice-cold riffing.

Though both members had played in bands covering different genres since their early teenage years, Black Metal had always been one of the most important as a vehicle for an honesty and fierceness that resonated deeply within the duo, without the need for extravagant clothing or pretentious concepts. And so Avmakt itself was born as the
vessel for channelling this stripped-down, raw feeling.

Satanic Version Of.… Tracklist:

1. Ordinance Avmakt
2. Poison Reveal
3. Sharpening Blades of Cynicism
4. Towing Oblivion
5. Charred
6. Doubt and the Void

‘Satanic Inversion Of….’ will be released as a limited-edition white vinyl LP, classic black vinyl LP, CD and digital album

PRE-ORDER: https://avmaktpeaceville.lnk.to/Satanic_inversion_of

About AVMAKT:

Formed in 2020 and with their one and only demo release gaining traction in the underground, the Norwegians quickly came to the attention of Darkthrone’s Fenriz and Peaceville Records, and Avmakt was swiftly included on Peaceville’s Black Metal Compilation, ‘Dark Side of the Sacred Star’ which launched at the end of 2022.

Avmakt itself means “powerlessness”, the sense of being overwhelmed and not able to have any influence – without choice, voice, or hope. And so it is from far down in this psychological abyss that Avmakt’s ideas and expressions manifest with the completion of their debut studio release; 6 sprawling epic tracks recorded with the assistance of Arild Torp, also of Obliteration, and encapsulating such themes as emptiness, desolation, and alienation in a powerful display of sinister, uninhibited Black Metal.

Avmakt are:
Christoffer Bråthen – guitars, vocals, bass
Kristian Valbo – drums, vocals, bass

Ensiferum: Finnish Folk Metal Titans to Release “Winter Storm” Full-Length on October 18th via Metal Blade Records

New Video / Single Now playing + Pre-orders Available

Watch / stream ENSIFERUM’s “Winter Storm Vigilantes” HERE

ENSIFERUM will release their long-awaited new studio album, Winter Storm, on October 18th through Metal Blade Records.

The Finnish folk-metal melodeath sensation has maintained a prolific release schedule since their first demo in 1997, gradually increasing in stature until eighth album Thalassic crowned their ascent in 2020. The nautical opus went on to top Finland’s album chart, reaching #3 in Germany, and top ten in Switzerland, Canada, and the United States. Eventually, ENSIFERUM would take Thalassic on two massive world tours and to festivals like Wacken, Hellfest, Summer Breeze, and Ragnarök, but the global Covid pandemic ensured that the four-year wait for Winter Storm would be the longest in the band’s near-thirty-year history.

Much of the new material emerged in the lockdown era, when ENSIFERUM‘s founding guitarist Markus Toivonen set himself the challenge of finding new ways to make music — eventually composing every song except the rousing, anthemic “Fatherland,” written by bassist Sami Hinkka. The addition of singer/organist Pekka Montin’s crystal-clear melodic high notes provided a tremendous boost on Thalassic. But on Winter Storm — a fantasy concept narrative penned by Hinkka — Montin’s super-strong voice finds its optimal place in ENSIFERUM‘s sound. Bringing to life such grandiose, heroic material, the singer emerges as one of the greatest vocal discoveries of the decade.

The way I see it, this album is more like a ‘musical’ than a traditional album,” says Hinkka. “The lyrics of Winter Storm are based on part of my unpublished fantasy book. One day it will be out… I don’t want to reveal the plot or details too much but ‘Winter Storm Vigilantes’ and ‘Fatherland’ tell of two factions in this long tale. The Vigilantes have gained knowledge to utilize certain rare elements, and even though there was already magic in this world, with this new epiphany they have reached a completely new level. This element seems to interact with living things in a way that even the wisest men don’t completely understand. And through generations of trial and error, they have refined a skill to expose their horses to the element and managed to break the law of gravity, making their steeds fly. But they became ruthless and greedy on their quest to gain more of this element. A small tribe in the north keep on fighting for their land, which the Vigilantes plan to take over. These North Folks will literally fight until the last man…

Other characters include a Vigilante castaway, the last shaman of the North Folk, and a mysterious widow. The album ends with a great battle against the Vigilantes and the unholy alliance of the castaway and the North Folk shaman, who has transcended into a spirit wolf. Who will prevail? Will this be the final battle of the book? Time will tell… I understand that all this sounds very far out — well, it is a fantasy book — but believe me, it will be truly an epic story!

Adds Hinkka of ENSIFERUM‘s first single from the offering, “Winter Storm Vigilantes,” “Markus had quite grandeur visions of the song and it turned out to be even more heroic than we expected. It was an obvious choice to open the new album. This epic song serves as one faction of the big story. The song pushes forward with the might of a thousand horses and will surely be a great song in the future setlist.”

Watch ENSIFERUM’s “Winter Storm Vigilantes” at THIS LOCATION.

ENSIFERUM‘s Winter Storm was produced by Janne Joutsenniemi, mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren, and includes guest appearances by Lassi Logrén on Nyckelharpa and violin and Mikko Mustonen on orchestration as well as Eleine’s Madeleine Liljestam who provides all vocals on “Scars In My Heart.”

Winter Storm will be available on jewel case CD, special edition CD featuring two additional bonus tracks, and digitally as well as vinyl in the following color variants:

CASKET ROBBERY Launch Video for “The Lacryphagist”

Casket Robbery is:
Megan Orvold-Scheider – Vocals
Cory Scheider – Guitars
Troy Powell – Guitars
Bryan Bykowski – Bass
Austin Vicars – Drums

Midwest death machine CASKET ROBBERY has posted the official music video for their newest single, “The Lacryphagist.” The song marks the band’s first new material since their 2022 album, Rituals of Death.

Vocalist Megan Orvold-Scheider comments on the song, “I had so much fun writing for ‘The Lacryphagist’. When we decided it was finally time to sit down and begin writing for the next release, we came up with a really awesome concept and this is a really cool piece of the puzzle. Initially, I got inspired by the stories of Victorian tear vials and I loved the idea of this creature that feeds off of human tears and collects them in various states of emotion. We were able to put in some really grotesque imagery into both the lyrics and the video we shot. I think this single shows our natural next progression as a band and our writing; lyrically getting darker while staying true to our tongue-in-cheek horror vibes that we have so much fun with. We cannot wait to hear what you all think of ‘The Lacryphagist.’”

NECROT‘s long-awaited Lifeless Birth is out now on Tankcrimes. The record earned the #3 spot on Billboard’s Top New Artist chart upon its first week of release! Elsewhere, the record took the #4 position on the Current Hard Music Albums chart, #6 on the Independent Record Label chart, and more!

NECROT continues their ascent to the forefront of American aural extremity, pushing the boundaries of style and continuing to recast metal in their image. Founded by bassist, vocalist, and principal songwriter Luca Indrio and drummer Chad Gailey in 2011 with guitarist Sonny Reinhardt joining the following year, the Oakland, California, trio offers Lifeless Birth as a culmination of their to-date efforts to encapsulate and push forward the deathly stylings of 2020’s Mortal and their 2017 debut, Blood Offerings

It’s not about giving up a ferocity that’s helped make them a household name among the converted. Instead, NECROT uses that same, by-now-characteristic intensity as the backdrop for an expanded songwriting palette. They’ve always been a band who stood out. The maturity they show on Lifeless Birth confirms that’s been the plan all along. It is a vision of what metal can be and do in 2024, tearing down old barriers and keeping those traditional elements that make it stronger.

Recorded with Grammy-winning producer Greg Wilkinson — who has helmed all three Necrot albums — and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, Lifeless Birth pivots fluidly between technical intricacy, progressive poise and all-out brutality. Scouring lead work will have thrash heads nodding knowingly, and an overarching groove reaches out across the metal microgenres with a righteous call to worship. Its songs are memorable and varied, unpretentious but able to rear up with statelier violence. At the same time, “Drill The Skull,” “Cut The Cord,” “The Curse” and others prove that just because a song is beating you into the ground doesn’t mean it can’t also be forward-thinking. Or catchy.

“The last few years have been tough for us and pretty much for everyone,” notes Indrio. “The result is Lifeless Birth, our most aggressive album so far, but at the same time also the most melodic. We have always been progressing as a band and I think this is our full maturity stage. We have been NECROT for thirteen years now, we work hard to continue doing what we do, and we have sacrificed a lot to it. We want to give our contribution to what metal is and will be, we don’t want to just pass by unnoticed. We want to live our mark and so far, Lifeless Birth is without doubt our best effort.

Lifeless Birth, which features cover art again by Marald Van Haasteren, is available on CD, cassette, and digital formats as well as an LP in several different and exciting vinyl variants all housed in a golden foil stamped gatefold jacket.

Lifeless Birth Teack Listing:
1.Cut The Cord
2. Lifeless Birth
3. Superior
4. Drill The Skull
5. Winds Of Hell
6. Dead Memories
7. The Curse

After having their Mortal tour plans scuttled owing to the covid pandemic, family health issues that led Indrio, who became a US citizen in 2016 and currently lives in Mexico, to return to Italy for a time canceled what would have been their first tour post-plague. Still, despite this and Gailey suffering a broken back, requiring multiple surgeries and intense physical therapy to be able to drum again, period, Indrio being struck with Bell’s Palsy the night before he was originally due to fly to the studio to record, and Reinhardt requiring multiple surgeries on his hands in the months since they finished, NECROT charges forward with material distinguished in its real-world point of view and willingness to look beyond extreme metal tropes in lyrics, the melodies of its guitar solos, and unbridled audience engagement.

VORAATH The Hymn of the Hunters Album Review

Voraath – L-R – Tylor Kohl – Guitar, Paul McBride – Bass, Joshua Ward – Drums, Keys, Vocals, Studio Guitars, Chelsea Marrow – Vocals, Daniel Presnell – Guitar

Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters Album Review

Written By Tristan Cardinelli

Voraath, hailing from Asheville, North Carolina, emerges as a force in extreme metal with their debut album, “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters,” out now!

This album converges the talents of members from Xael, Visitant, Rapheumets Well, Implosive Disgorgence, and Sweet Blood, forging a sound that melds native folk tones with crushing metal riffs. The members collectively are the perfect ingredients forming a recipe destined for success. Joshua Ward’s methodical drumming establishes an otherworldly and demonic pace. Tylor Kohl, Paul McBride, and Daniel Presnell unite as a formidable string section, displaying a savage talent equipt with speed, and agility that harmoniously complements the quintet.

Upon first hearing this album, it’s striking how Chelsea Morrow’s blistering vocals flow like an erupting volcano, challenging any preconceived notions about female-fronted bands. Her powerful voice embodies extreme metal with such force, showcasing an undeniable prowess in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

The album is about a dystopian world shaped by 80s sci-fi, game lore, and folklore. From the haunting intro of “Into Perdition,” Voraath plunges listeners into the desolate Appalachian landscapes, setting the stage for a narrative-driven chronicle through survival and betrayal. Tracks like “The Road to Samm Hill” and “Waypoint Orion” deepen the saga, each riff and rhythm echoing the perilous quests and ethereal encounters with our protagonists. Chelsea Morrow’s ferocious vocals in “Dreadborn” and the haunting melodies of “The Leviathan’s Keep” showcase Voraath’s ability to weave an intricate account of brutal musicality, creating a cohesive universe that spans dimensions.

The album’s apex arrives with “The God-Killer Saga,” a grand confrontation that epitomizes Voraath’s prowess in spinning a tale in metal driven story telling. Inspired by Trevor Henderson’s creations, “Sirenhead” adds a chilling horror element, while “Pyrrhic” closes with melancholic introspection, reflecting the trauma endured throughout the hunters’ journey.

Voraath’s “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters” isn’t just an album; it’s a meticulously crafted portal into a nightmarish realm where each track unfolds a new chapter of struggle and revelation. With their blend of brutal aggression and melodic nuance, Voraath sets a new standard in storytelling, promising listeners an immersive experience that transcends genres and challenges the boundaries of a musical literary experience. Embrace the darkness and join the hunt—Voraath awaits, ready to lead you through their extreme metal multiverse with unparalleled intensity and imagination.

VORAATH Journey Into Extreme Storytelling And Craft A Metal Multiverse In “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters” Via Exitus Stratagem Records Out Now! Plus Tour Dates w/ Gorgatron, Casket Robbery.

Prepare for a sonic descent into the unknown as USA’s Voraath unleashes their debut album “Vol 1: The Hymn of the Hunters” – a heavy and immersive experience through extreme music and sci-fi themes. In this release, they infused their enthusiasm for 80’s action sci-fi with their passion for brutal yet epic metal with hints of their own culture which includes haunting folk elements. They explain further:

“We think this album will be something unique, a whirlwind of emotions and an auditory odyssey. We capsulated real events in our lives and laced them through our complex musical universe. We want the fans to feel the music, and ride along with us on this musical journey through our dystopian planet. Their story will take an unforeseen turn as they encounter interdimensional horrors and bestow the moniker of god hunters.”

Voraath is proud of the level of detail that this album represents; from the duality of brutal yet melancholic soundscapes to the intricate lore which expands from the Appalachian mountains to the furthest regions of the cosmos. Being sci-fi enthusiasts they wanted to tell a grand story with cosmic entities warring and interdimensional worlds while paying homage to their culture in the Appalachian Mountains.

Voraath‘s lore, created from scratch, presents a seemingly simple dystopian survival story that unveils cosmic implications as one delves deeper. The band’s commitment to their narrative is evident in their songwriting process, with each member contributing their unique specialties to shape the final product. Get ready to embark on a metal journey like no other.

This is an odyssey of hardship, betrayal, and survival that leads us to discoveries with cosmic implications. It is recommended for fans of Septic Flesh, Gojira, and Fleshgod Apocalypse.

In additional news, VORAATH will be supporting Gorgatron and Casket Robbery on the “Mechanical Necrosis Tour” this coming June and July (dates listed below) along with a performance at this year’s Michigan Metal Fest on August 24th in Battle Creek alongside Mushroomhead, (hed) PE, Gideon and lots more.

Cryptopsy Sign to Season of Mist

No band has tested the boundaries of extreme music more than Cryptopsy.

After an ungentle exhumation from the Canadian underground during the early ’90s, Cryptopsy quickly rose to recognition amongst metalheads all across the globe. Most bands would consider themselves lucky to make one classic album. Cryptopsy have made three, including None So Vile, which is widely considered one of the best death metal albums of all time.

Cryptopsy’s raw and blistering technical prowess set a precedent for extreme music. After all, their eldest statesmen did write the book on this style of drumming. But the band have continued to evolve throughout their storied career. Their 30-year discography defies any one categorization, incorporating everything from jazz fusion to mathy avant-garde rhythms and melodic experimentation before returning to their more brutal form.

Just last year, Cryptopsy won a JUNO Award for their most recent album, As Gomorrah Burns. This year, the band earned another prestigious honor: joining the celebration of death metal’s most iconic band. While they continue to tour North America alongside Death to All, recently, Cryptopsy made a stop at Maryland Death Fest for a special 30th anniversary set of their debut album, Blasphemy Made Flesh.

Now that they’ve signed with Season of Mist, Cryptopsy are focused on keeping their momentum rolling. They’re hitting the road this fall on a second tour of North America, this time with CarnifexNew music is also on the way, along with definitive reissues from their classic catalogue.

“We are thrilled to announce that Cryptopsy has joined forced with Season of Mist!” the band says. “Season of Mist’s dedication to artistic integrity and their track record of supporting diverse and innovative music make them the perfect partner for Cryptopsy. With their backing, we look forward to reaching new heights creatively, connecting with more fans and continuing to push the boundaries of extreme music. We are excited for the journey ahead and the opportunities this opens up for what’s already an exciting new chapter of our band”.

Style: Death Metal

When Cryptopsy emerged from Montreal, Quebec in 1993, their groundbreaking blend of technical prowess and brutal intensity left an indelible mark on extreme metal.

Right away, Cryptopsy showcased their unparalleled musicianship with their debut album. Blasphemy Made Flesh (1994) set the stage for a career that’s been defined by innovation and boundary-pushing. Their next album solidified the band as pioneers of death metal. None So Vile (1996) earned them critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase across the world.

“Brutal and beautifully chaotic…a must-have for any extreme metal fan’s collection”, wrote Metal Hammer, who named None So Vile one of the best death metal albums ever.

Cryptopsy has continued to evolve throughout their storied career. Their 30-year discography defies any one categorization, ranging from jazz fusion on Whisper Supremacy (1998) and the avant-garde rhythms of Once Was Not (2005) to the melodic experiments of The Unspoken King (2008).

In 2012, Cryptopsy released their self-titled album, which signaled a return to their brutal roots. Three years later, the band embarked on The Book of Suffering, an ambitious two-part EP that Decibel regarded as “an absolute fucking burner”.

Almost 30 years into their career, Cryptopsy won the JUNO Award for Best Metal/Hard Music Album for their latest album As Gomorrah Burns (2023). They followed that up by earning another prestigious honor: joining Death to All on a tour of North America.

Along with their celebrated discography, a relentless work ethic and reputation as blistering live performers has cemented Cryptopsy as one of metal’s most influential and respected bands. But while their legacy is safely established, the band remain committed to expanding the definitions of extreme music. Having now signed with Season of Mist, they’re preparing to release new music, along with definitive reissues from their classic catalogue.
