West coast-based metal unit DEATH DEALER UNION – featuring frontwoman Lena Scissorhands of modern metal leaders INFECTED RAIN – released their debut album, entitled Initiation via Napalm Records!

Following searing recent singles “The Vow of Silence“ and “The Integument“, today, the band has released a third single – the dynamic “ILL FATED”. The track juxtaposes 80s-influenced clean guitars and sinister metallic riffs as Lena displays her soaring trademark vocal delivery and introspective wordplay. The video features eye-catching imagery, sets and costumes, making for a striking viewing experience!

In 2019, metal musicians CC McKenna (drums) and Doug Weiand (lead guitars) set forth on a dark musical path – aligning diverse metal influences with otherworldly channelings of alchemy, the occult and all things esoteric. Little did they know, the final ingredient of their impending amalgamation was on the horizon, set to emerge as DEATH DEALER UNION.

After meeting acclaimed frontwoman Lena Scissorhands, a musical pact was instantly formed – propelling the band into the studio with producer Valentin Voluta (also recognized for his work with Infected Rain). Initiation kicks off with its instrumental title track, droning deeply into electronic flourishes and spine-tingling organs. The track flows into first album single “The Vow of Silence” – a fast-paced burner featuring aggressive verses and a catchy chorus that fully showcases the album’s immense production, once again helmed by Valentin Voluta. “ILL FATED” juxtaposes 80s-influenced clean guitars and sinister metallic riffs as Lena Scissorhands displays her dynamic trademark vocal delivery and introspective wordplay. UK Tour Dates Announced!

UK Tour Supporting Nekrogoblikon and Cage Fight Begins September 13!

North Carolina melodic death metal leaders AETHER REALM will soon hit the road in the UK and Ireland with headliners Nekrogoblikon and fellow support artists Cage Fight! Today, in celebration of the upcoming tour, AETHER REALM have dropped an entirely brand new single, entitled “Should I?”, featuring none other than the iconic Björn “Speed” Strid (Soilwork/The Night Flight Orchestra).

The introspective new single follows acclaimed albums Tarot (2017) and Redneck Vikings From Hell (2020, #16 US Top New Artist Albums), and is chock full of epic bombast and undeniable groove, uniquely mixing melodic soundscapes with southern-fried metal riffage.

Frontman Vincent “Jake” Jones offers:
“‘Should I?’ is a song about doubt. Way back in 2020, right after we put out Redneck Vikings From Hell, AETHER REALM experienced a surge of new fans. However, this was coupled with an increase in the number of “anti-fans” – people that aren’t content to simply not enjoy our music, but feel a strong need to convince other people not to as well. You might call them “trolls” or “haters” or whatever. You know the type. We were also navigating the music industry for the first time – the world of labels and contracts and generally feeling like a small fish in a big pond.

I hadn’t really figured out how to deal with this transition. Some of it was getting under my skin, and I found myself doubting my choices and abilities. At the same time, the skeleton for a new track was coming together. I had been listening to a lot of Soilwork, and I think that showed in the songwriting. I definitely wrote the vocals with Soilwork‘s vocalist Björn Strid in mind but in a vague ‘wouldn’t it be cool if’ way. The lyrics spilled out naturally, taking the shape of the question I ask myself every time someone tells me I should be doing something different than what I’m doing. Heinrich and Donny laid down guitars for a working demo, and we picked it back up in 2023 and started polishing it up. Our boys in Wilderun had just done a tour with Soilwork, and a connection was made. I shot my shot with Björn, and a short time later he responded that he dug the track and would do it.

Tyler and I tracked drums, vocals, and bass with Kile Odell at Top Track Studios and No Heroes Studios respectively. I think it came out pretty great, but I’m sure I’ll hear someone tell me that I should write a different way. I think from now on I’ll probably get some catharsis out of just responding with ‘Should I?'”

The role of Huginn and Muninn as messengers of the supreme God is connected with the tradition of shamanic practices and with the general symbolism of the northern peoples, depicting the raven as a source of hidden knowledge.

The lyrics and rhythm of the song are interpreted as the transcendental journey of a shaman who worries about whether he can return from this state.”

POWERWOLF set another milestone in their career, and live music as a whole, when they made history with the use of augmented reality at a live music festival in Europe during their headline set at Summer Breeze Festival in Germany! It was one of the biggest productions ever, during which POWERWOLF performed in front of tens of thousands of fans.

Together with ARTE Concert and the 0221 Mediaagentur, using technology used in video games, they created a monstrous wolf above the stage in real time during the set, visible by both fans on site, as well as devotees watching the livestream from all over the world. The wolf was visible four times during the set, during their hits “Incense & Iron”, “Amen & Attack”, “Beast Of Gévaudan” and “Resurrection By Erection”.

The show at Summer Breeze was yet another demonstration of power by POWERWOLF, who currently reign as Germany’s most actively successful artist right now. With the biggest pyro show of the festival, a mass of actors on stage, a huge fireworks display and a band in top form in front of the biggest crowd of the entire festival, the high priests of heavy metal have impressively underlined their status as the leading force in the genre!

Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of “Ýdalir”, a haven nestled amidst lush valleys filled with yew trees. A galloping rhythm and melodic riffs dominate the title track while a fight of growls and screams represent the darkness of Níðhöggur, threatening to destroy the tranquil existence.

Releasing their first record in five years, SKÁLMÖLD have returned with furious sets – such as their performance at Wacken Open Air (which even the President of Iceland himself made a point of attending) and their upcoming show at Summer Breeze.

Björgvin Sigurðsson on “Ýdalir”:
“The third single we present to you from our upcoming album is the title track, ‘ÝDALIR’. Here we get to know a little about ULLUR and his home in ÝDALIR, and are introduced to the horrors he and his folk must face.

Two things I would like to mention regarding this song are, first, the majority of the song was written by our drummer, Jón Geir. He has written riffs and melodies before, but this is the first time he presents to us what became the backbone of a song. The opening riff and verse are very straight forward and menacing and you can sense the danger ULLUR and his folk are facing. And then comes the melody in the chorus. Such a strong melody which could have easily been written in 1988 and recorded for Seventh Son, if you ask me.

Second, we have to talk about the guitar solo. Þráinn is such a monster when it comes to guitar solos and has done some fantastic solos for us in the past. But here he gives us what might be his best guitar solo to date. Good stuff.

So, ÝDALIR is a song that we are very proud to present to you and I can see this song becoming a constant in our live set for years to come. And now we just have to wait a few more days until you can enjoy the album as a whole. It´s gonna be a blast.

Icelandic Viking metal giants worship the heritage of Norse mythology!

Starting off with soothing opener “Ýr”, gentle acoustic guitar and organs are the calm before the storm. Catapulted to a dwelling owned by the god Ullur, the unsettled “Ýdalir” builds with its hypnotizing guitar rhythms and galloping drum sounds, building a solid ground for ominous and dark growls. Based on Norse mythology, the sister “Skuld” makes up a trio of Norns, responsible for deciding the fate of people. Remarkable clean tenor vocals guide through the mystic mood, breaking up the heavy horizon with a fast-paced guitar solo and underlined by eerie bass lines. Closing the album, the stunning ten-minute track “Ullur”invites the listener into a colorful journey of melodic folk metal. Accompanied by roaring fire, the lyrics conform to some of the Old Norse poetic forms and create a magnificent interaction of oboe and keyboard elements, while the catchy guitar riff rises dramatically with the more eerie-like harmonies, providing a cinematic, epic ending. With Ýdalir, SKÁLMÖLDshowcases a blend of both ancient and modernized cultural heritage, and connects precious sagas with thrilling black metal elements while folk metal melodies give them an enigmatic touch.
