Vic Rattlehead Makes His Formidable Appearance in The Third Installment of Megadeth’s Video Trilogy

Written By Jenn Holt & Christy Lee

Megadeth has released the scorching new video “Chapter V: Killing Time”, the latest track from the band’s explosive new album, “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!”

This marks the fifth installment of a multi-part short film revealing the origins of villainous protagonist Vic Rattlehead. The legendary thrash band has released the final part in what the band has been calling the Vic Rattlehead trilogy of music videos.

We follow our protagonist Vic Rattlehead with a Rattlehead army in combat in order to get to the fat man with a cigar (pseudo villain) and get him to release the mysterious woman (Rattleheads wife?) who saved his life and transformed him. The entire video series follows the backstory of Vic, as he makes his third appearance in the video trilogy in a five part series. In Vic’s quest, we get a dystopian-matrix-esque train fight scene. Vic’s fighting is vengeful and The video in itself almost is not like a current day war time aspect but more of an early nineteenth century feel, mostly because of how Vic appears (weaponry and clothing) and the environment in which the battles take place. The dark and gloomy aspect of the video gives you the impression of a vile power that intends to cause chaos and destruction. There are glimpses of the band playing, but Dave is predominantly seen throughout the course of the video. The song itself is well done. I’ve really enjoyed the new album. Megadeth really put a lot of effort into it and they didn’t let the removal of Ellefson affect anything. The videos really put an extension onto how well-written and thought provoking the album is.

Megadeth’s sixteenth studio album sees founder Dave Mustaine working alongside co-producer Chris Rakestraw (Danzig, Parkway Drive), who together oversaw 2016’s “Dystopia.”

MEGADETH Shares New Video For ‘Life In Hell’ Song

MEGADETH has released the official music video for the song “Life In Hell”, taken from the band’s latest studio album, “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!” Titled “Life In Hell: Chapter IV”, the video is the fourth and latest instalment of the band’s epic multi-part short film revealing the origins of the band’s iconic mascot Vic Rattlehead.

Mustaine told Kerrang! magazine about “Life In Hell”: “‘Life In Hell’ is about someone who believes he’s this James Bond-like motherfucker who can live this life of espionage. He’s ultra-cool. No matter what, he thinks that he’s going to get out of it. He’s someone with a nihilistic — maybe fatalistic is a better word — outlook towards things. It’s about that self-obsessed, self-absorbed person, and how they eventually get caught.

“I like to have a moral, or a payoff, to my lyrics. I think the middle-eight here really does that: ‘Only a fool would do what you’ve done / You lie, you steal and you cheat everyone / When you’re caught in your most despicable deed / You plead the court for diplomatic immunity…’ That could have been any of those people over the last four or five years who [were called out for] their terrible, predatory behavior in Hollywood. ‘Life In Hell’ is ultimately about that person who’s so into himself that nothing else matters to him, except him.”

Vic Rattlehead is Coming For You. The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead!

The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead! is the sixteenth studio album by American thrash metal legends Megadeth, It was released today, September 2, 2022, on frontman Dave Mustaine’s Tradecraft label via Universal. Its the successor to 2016’s Dystopia, which earned the group their first-ever Grammy for the title track.

Dave Mustaine has defied all odds and is once again at the top of his game. He beat cancer, survived the pandemic and managed to avoid the whole banishment of two-time long-term bassist Dave Ellefson scandal but we are here to discuss the music so lets jump right in.

Ice-T makes an appearance on the song Night Stalkers. Rust in Peace gets referenced on the track “Mission to Mars” 3:25 — “Why don’t we just return to Earth and let it rust in peace out here?

“Celebutante” Is a cynical song about a girl Dave saw wearing his bands shirt. He approached her and told her thats his band but she brushed him off citing she didn’t listen to the band on her shirt and had no idea who Dave was. Poser alert?

The whole album is high octane thrash and displays the bands maturity. There are subtle similarities yet its different. Lyrically there are metaphors and double edged swords. Every song on this album is very good in my opinion. I suggest you put it on today and give it a listen.

Megadeth Release New Song “Soldier On”

New song “Soldier On” off the band’s sixteenth studio album, “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!”, which will arrive on September 2 via UMe.

MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine says “Soldier On!” is about coming to the realization that you need to walk away from a relationship that’s very toxic, and how hard it can be to start down that road. But you know you need to, and just taking that first step is the hardest part. Whatever your leaving does to them, you have to block that part out, stay the course and do what’s right for you. It will be hard in the beginning, but you have got to live for yourself to be worth a damn to anyone else. You’ve got to soldier on.” Dave says the new album is fueled by his competitive mindset. Mustaine also says the album is an unrelenting thrash-metal assault.

Its been 6 years since we’ve seen a new album from Megadeth. Mustaine survived a global pandemic and throat cancer. He spoke about his current state in a Rolling Stone interview last month stating, “I feel healthy,” he says. “I am absolutely loving life, singing the best I’ve ever sang. I’m playing the best I’ve ever played. I can tell you that when we play live, we sit in our jam room before we go out there, and we study the songs now, like I used to back when the early stages of Megadeth.” He sums up his health status with three words: “feisty as ever.”

Prior to Dystopia’s recording, longtime drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick announced their departure from the band and and it is also the last album to feature bassist David Ellefson before his dismissal from the band in 2021. Dystopia is the band’s 15th studio album and the second highest charting album in the U.S. after Countdown to Extinction.

“The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!” is due out September 2, 2022. You can preorder HERE.
